Oh Well,

Today was the final day for finalists to be notified about a writing contest I entered. And I didn’t final in it. :( I had high hopes for it because it was a contest that focused on love scenes. A ten-page entry of “your most sensual love scene”. I think I do pretty good love scenes, I even had a romance writing friend of mine look it over and help me put more emotion and development into it so it was more than just a sex scene. But, it still didn’t place.

So now I’m waiting for my entry to be returned, and I can’t wait to see what sort of comments the judges gave. I’m hoping it wasn’t my actual writing skills that didn’t make the cut. That just maybe a shower/spanking scene might’ve been too much for them to handle. Traditional romance love scene it was not! :D

I’ll let y’all know when I find out.

A bit o’ travel writing

Are you someone who thinks of terrorist bombings and civil war whenever Belfast is mentioned? Not me, not anymore. I traveled there recently and discovered so much more than just a history of war and political dissent.

Upon arrival, Belfast didn’t surprise me. Not a cosmopolitan city, but an industrial one, scars earned in a war torn past were visible. Eager to see these scars close up and learn what the Troubles were really about I embarked on a Black Cab tour of West Belfast with three others from the hostel.

Quote of the Day

“I wrote the story myself. It’s all about a girl who lost her reputation but never missed it.”

Sunday Nights

I’m not a huge t.v fan. But there are a few shows out there I really really enjoy, and make a point of watching. One of those shows is Cold Case. I always make the time on Sunday nights to watch it.

This series is well worth your time. Great writing and acting make the characters come alive and the stories engaging and touching. The use of music as a storytelling tool isn’t a new one, but if you checkout this show you’ll see that it’s ingenius use is very effective.

Religion vs Spirituality

Are you a religious person? A spiritual person? I had a great discusion with a co -worker the other night about this. But in the end, he still didn’t understand how I could seperate the two. For me it’s simple.

Going For It.

I’ve decided to enter a couple of writing contests. Of course I’m targeting the ones that have a sexy or an erotic category. :P I’ve only entered one contest before, and haven’t received any results back yet, so I’m not sure it’s a good idea. Maybe I should see how I did in the first one before I start entering more.
Nah, why wait? I mean, I’ll never win if I don’t enter right? I’m not even sure winning is my goal here. To be honest, I don’t think I’d care if I win. My goal is to have an editor, or agent, like what they read and take an interest in me. Is it terribly cocky of me to say I know I can be a bestselling author if only I can get started?
Yes, it’s cocky. BUT, I need to believe this, or what’s the point in all of it?
The point is, believe you can do what you want to do, and you just might accomplish your dreams. But if you don’t believe. . . you’ll never achieve.

Spring Time

I had a good day. :)

It snowed here this past week, and the sky has been shades of grey for days. Today however, the sun was out!

I woke up after a great sleep, but still feeling pretty lazy and wanting to procrastinate on my spring cleaning a bit, I went to the near by pub for lunch. 4.5 hours later I came home feeling very relaxed and happy and motivated to write.

I figure it’s because, even though I deal with so many people through work, I’m a bit of a hermit. I write in the afternoons, I go to work, I sleep, and I occasionally get my butt into the gym. I spent the day having a few beers and playing some pool and just rejuvenating myself. It was great. It’s amazing how certain conversations can spark such strong story ideas.

But I still have to do some house cleaning…. oh well, tommorow’s another day!

The Hunt is on!

I’ve started my hunt for an agent. The list is short right now, but as I collect rejections it will continue to grow I’m sure. :)

I’ve finished the first three chapters of my new novella. It’s a contemporary romance, (read erotic romance) which starts with a blind date mix up. The H enters a coffee shop and approaches the wrong woman, thinking she is the woman he’s been set up with. Of course, the sassy h thinks he’s pretty hot and decides to pretend to be the woman he’s looking for.

So far I’m having fun with these two characters so you can expect to hear more.

Playoff Time!

That would the HOCKEY playoffs!
What can I say? I’m Canadian. I have an older brother. I grew up watching, and occasionally playing, hockey.

I’m not normally a huge hockey fan. I don’t sit in front of the t.v every week and watch my favorite team win, lose or tie. If I’m lucky enough to get tickets I’m thrilled to go, and I thoroughly enjoy it live and in person. NHL or juniors, doesn’t matter to me. I just love the energy of the crowd and the players. I’m pretty loud and I’m not shy about getting on my feet and whistling and cheering when I see a good play. For me, it’s all about the energy. . . the buzz.

And there’s nothing like the buzz at playoff time. Even watching the playoffs on T.V is exciting then. Why? Because I live in a city that has Hockey Fever and every pub has the games on, and crowds watching them. Once again it’s the energy of the people that make it exciting. And I swear, that our combined energies and concentration can help our team win! :D
