Slim Camp

Tricks and Tips.

How’s everyone doing?

I was doing great until yesterday. yep. Yesterday and today I’ve been bad. But I’ve been super stressed. Feb 1st deadline for one publisher, March 1st for two proposals, and I thought I’d have a home for another story in April, but it seems business stuff is not working in my favor.

Anyway, stress has made me stop being so careful..and Part of me is mad at myself, and part of me doesn’t care because I have other things to worry about. BUT, I lost 2 pounds last week!! ( I weigh in on Sundays at the gym…so it’s consistent) and I’ve found a few thing’s y’all might like to use.

First up, check my blog sidebar. See the SLIM CAMP button? And next to it is a small meter thingy. Okay, it’s a word meter for tracking how many words toward your goal for writing is…but I’ve substituted pounds for words. 🙂 Just click HERE and it will take you right to the page where you can get you’re own! (I have no idea why my meter is int he middle. It wasn’t when I put it up the first time. It should sort of of be at the start…you know, like a thermometer. LOL

Another thing… Counting Calories. It’s important. I’m workinngon paying more attention, but I’m not as strict as I should be.

Check This one out I’ve not used it, but it’s a free one.

Myself, I like to use an actual paper book. LOl Can;t help it. it’s the only thign that works form e.
However, I do not like to count calories on my own..so I use this one, simply for the math.

And thanks to an email from Amie, here’s a link to 5 Foods to Try, and 5 to avoid.

Hope these links help you stay focussed. And hopefully I’ll see more Goal meters posted around, with slow and steady results. :sport:

  1. :cowgirl: Congrats on the 2 pounds, Sasha that’s awesome. I haven’t done any full blown workouts this week, but I’ve made myself be more active, I’ve walked to my daughter’s school a time or two, and I’ve dropped 1.5 pounds.

I’m working on toning more than weight loss, but I don’t mind the pound droppage at all.

  2. YAY Nikki. And incorperating being active into your daily life is way better than just going to the gym. Going to the gym is great, but being active, especially with family, is the best.

  3. My goal for this year was to finally do something about the 20 lbs I gained with the baby, who is now 2. *g* I started Weight Watchers, and my progress so far: I’ve lost 3 lbs by the scale, and am able to zip and button jeans I couldn’t get on when I started, so I’m losing inches, too. I’m starting the 12 Second Sequence workout, which is twice a week for twenty minutes, slow and easy so I shouldn’t hurt myself while I build up my muscles.

I am loving Weight Watchers because it’s so damn easy. We bought a cookbook and we follow the recipes out of it. It’s not hard to stay within my daily points. I’ve just changed how I cook and shop and what choices I make when eating out.

The best thing, though, is that my energy went way up as soon as I started to eat better. I don’t care if I don’t lose another pound as long as I can feel good!

  4. Sasha. A 2 pound loss is really great! Did you know the average weight lost per week for a WW member is .8 of a pound? Point 8.

I swear writers have different problems related to weight/diet than a lot of folks. We don’t even have to go out to work. this is a fun thing…working in the pjs and all, but it means we don’t run for buses…we don’t walk anywhere inside a building…we can spend our day in virtually the same position!

and when the writing’s rockin’ we don’t want to get up and move…b/c our brains are so active it feels like we’re moving.

And when we’re done for the day…we’re mentally exhausted so that being creative in the kitchen is NOT what we want to do. We want comfort food…we want to veg!

So, I think Nikki has hit on a great idea. Walk for errands if you can. My dh and I walk to the video store, the mall, to mail letters and packages. Whatever. Add steps where you can.

Me? I’m back at WW journaling all my food…adding exercise whenever I can.

It’s a struggle, but I’m determined to hit my weight goal by the time I go to national in San Francisco.

there, i said it in public!

    Best of luck, babe,

    Bonnie

  5. Sasha…I’ve actually done great this week!! LOL, I’ve been counting calories…and eating fruit to fill the gaps. I’ve discovered that I hate South Beach diet frozen dinners…they taste like cardboard. YUCK! And that dill pickles make tasty, cruncy snacks. I still have today and tomorrow to go, so not weiging in yet…love the progress bar!!
And hang in there, girlie…Jan. is always a blah month, things will look better in Feb!!
    :sporty:

  6. Bonnie! I have to admit, one of the things that kept me from buying comfort food yesterday was thinking abotu fitting into an airplane seat. ALL of my extra weight is in my ass and hips, and that makes it hard to fit into those friggin’ things. I’ve noticed it getting harder each year, and I do not want it to be a problem this year.

And YAy on the journaling. I think it really helps to be aware of what we eat.

  7. I fell off the wagon, I had a glass of Pepsi yesterday. I too was feeling stress.

But today I’m back to being off pop and eating right and am still not eating after 8 at night.

I still feel good and my black tight pants are still fitting pretty good.

    Sasha,

Congrats on the 2 pounds and staying with it! And do not beat yourself up over”being bad”. No blame, no guilt. Things happen, even for those of us who try to have a relatively healthy lifestyle. I did try to give up carbs once…bad idea!!! Made me slow, irritable, and plain miserable. Besides, I’m a New Yorker, no way I’m giving up bagels for life!!! And baguettes, and sourdough….

  9. It’s easy to join Deb, Just drop by here on Thursdays and chat with us. We are all following our own plans, some official, some not. The Slim Camp Thursdays are just to share and help us all stay motivated.

There are success stories and tips and tricks, and recipes posted on Thursdays. To see what we’ve had so far…(Some GREAT tips and stories) you can just click on SLIM CAMP at the bottom of the post and the SLIM CAMP ARCHIVES will come up for you.

  10. I went back to the nutritionist in an effort to get back on the bandwagon and well, I kinda got scolded but i deserved it 😳 I’ll keep going back though because one thing I realized is I need the accoutability.

We signed up with the Y too–they have this program I want to sign up for where a personal trainer does an eval and makes up a workout program for you and even though you don’t REALLY have a personal trainer they do follow up and stuff and call you if you don’t work out. I’m SO Signing up! LOL

Sasha you should be really happy with that two pounds. It might not seem like much but it is!!! Remember slow and steady wins the race

Bonnie my goal is to drop four sizes by Nationals in July.

  11. Amie! the Y is a great idea. If there’s a good scale there you could track your progress on it.

4 sizes by national…do-able…definitely…there’s time girlfriend.

Ok…here’s a tip from WW which I’ve used and it works. I throw out, donate…or send to a consignment store clothes that are too big. I no longer keep “big” jeans anywhere in my house.

Over the holidays, I began to feel the lbs creeping back on…where? In the jeans! So, when I saw that, it was much easier to get back on track. I couldn’t afford to go out and buy new clothes. Not with Christmas bills (and a huge dental bill) on my charge card. LOL

And I’ve got a few pretty pairs of panties in a small size just waiting for me. I pull them out and tell myself that soon, I’ll have whole new sets to wear…

Is that goofy or what? don’t care…works for me.

    Incentive, you know?

Bonnie (who is SO glad Sasha mentioned SLIM CAMP on our blog)
