January 1st

I don’t feel bad for not doing any writing today, everyone is allowed a day off. I did get up and workout though. šŸ˜€ Of course, after working out I came home and made myself some nachos and guacamole for lunch.

Last night went very smooth at work. I was relieved because the last time I worked on New Years Eve it was a nightmare! The restaurant was full, the lounge was full, we only had 2 cooks, and then the power went out! Suffice to say, last nights occasional argument about no I.D was a small thing.

You see, here in Alberta, the legal drinking age is only 18. But servers and bartender HAVE to I.D anyone who LOOKS 25 or younger. That is the law. So when someone comes in, and they look 23, I still have to ID them, because if a liquor inspector comes in, and i.d’s them and they don’t have any, I get a $850 fine. I GET IT! Not the restaurant, or lounge, but ME personally. As I am the one serving them. And the liquor inspectors here do go undercover. They’ll send in a couple of 20 year olds, that are old enough to be in the bar, and if we don’t i.d them, we still get the fine, even if THEY are old enough. Tricky bastards they are.

Anyway, all of this comes down to the fact that people still like to argue with me when I tell them they can’t stay in our lounge because they don’t have i.d.
“But I’m 23 years old!”
“I believe you. But you don’t have any proof of that.”
“But I am!”
“Sorry, it doesn’t matter unless you have i.d.” And really, why would you go out drinking on New Years Eve without your i.d??
“I’ll give you $100.”
“Sorry, if you get caught in here, it’ll cost me $1000.” Well, only $850, but that’s close to $1000.
“C’mon. I’ll give you $100 right now.”
Me, finally getting tired of being polite. “Arguing with me is a lost cause. You have to leave. NOW.”

In all fairness I don’t often get offered money to let them stay. Some people offer to pay the fine and my usual response is, do you have $1000 cash on you right now? All say no, except once, when a guy pulled out the money and dropped it on the table. I let them stay.

All in all, a few conversations liek that were the worst of the night. šŸ™‚

  1. Glad your night went well!

I live to get carded now. Last year I got carded in the grocery store and I almost kissed the (poor, obviously half-blind)kid who did it. šŸ˜€

Maybe next time just use your Jedi-mind tricks on them or bring Jake along…(tho he doesn’t have lots of patience )

    Happy New Year Sasha!
You would think that these people would have learned to carry there ID, my daughter wanted me to go to a club a few years ago, they IDed everyone even those well over 25…I am glad you had a good night, we did our traditional thing and went to bed on time.

In Texas the age is 21 and we have to ID. I used to work in a convenience store and I had a guy come in with two friends once and in Texas you have to ID ALL OF THEM! The kids argued with me with a COP standing there (i’d just been ROBBED!) because I wouldn’t sell to them because they weren’t all over 21
