Me? Explicit?

Me? Explicit?

:O I could be wrong, but I think it’s safe to assume, after reading a post on Lori Foster’s message board that my entry to her Brava Novella contest will not final.

Lori Says:
You know, since many of you asked, and I’m reading entries right now, I thought I’d tell some of the things that take me out of a submission. These are BROAD examples – not taken from any one entry, okay? I would never do that.
But if we bring up problem areas, then maybe we can talk about them in a constructive way, and get input from some of the other pubs here. Whatdya think?
I so hope this doesn’t offend anyone!
First, if I’m dropped right in the middle of a super explicit sex scene and I have no idea who these people are, how emotionally commited they might be to each other, or why they’re in that situation… well, I have nothing invested in the entry, so it doesn’t appeal to me. Also, anything too over the top, and no way can I have it posted on my message board anyway. Sorry!

Let me make this clear…this was not posted TO ME, but in general.
Like I said. . . I could be wrong…but my entry starts with a bit of an erotic dream the heroine is having…so I’m thinking you won’t be seeing it amongst the finalists. 😛

P.S~ How do I get italics on this thing??? :plain:

    I think that’s kinda unfair…

Brava is explicit, alot of its premises are based on sex between the hero and heroine without commitment..AND the contest form said that anything could be posted: first meeting, kiss, love scene, etc…so by Lori saying that, it’s basically refuting the contest rules.

    Oh well!!

Angela, unfortunately, not everything is fair. 🙂 But I’m ok with that. Tawny Taylor is having a contest on her website where you can win a crit from an EllorasCave Editor…I’m sure she won’t mind the explicitiness. And there is always the long way to do things and just sub it straight to Kate Duffy. 😉

  4. Highlight the text you want italicized and press Ctrl-Shift-I. That should do it! 🙂

As for your entry, don’t stress! They asked for 750 words from anywhere in the story, so I’m sure they understand that there are going to be scenes that might not make a whole lotta sense. But if they are well-written, which I have no doubt yours is, then they’ll take that into consideration. So keep your hopes up! 😀
