I’ve always enjoyed her stories, but THE MISSING turned me into a total fangirl for life, and THE DEPARTED just proves that this author knows what she’s doing. A LIFELONG OBSESSION
FBI Special Agent Taylor Jones has made it his mission to save those in harm’s way by any means necessary—including employing psychic agents like Desiree “Dez” Lincoln, who can communicate with the disembodied spirits of the dead. Taylor is haunted by his own ghost, his kid sister, gone missing at age six. For a quarter of a century he has been tortured by her loss and the mystery of her disappearance.

A NIGHT’S INDISCRETION
When Dez is seriously wounded, Taylor can no longer hide his feelings for her. Getting involved could spell disaster for both of them—not to mention those who rely on them for help—but once Dez lays her hands on him, he can’t resist the fierce attraction. But after giving in to his desires, Taylor pulls back, and Dez strikes out on her own.

AN INESCAPABLE PASSION
Responding to the call of another anguished spirit, Dez is led to Taylor’s old hometown. As the two are forced to come together to save a girl in peril, Dez may be able to help Taylor finally find the answers he’s been looking for…

Excerpt …

Gabe was used to the truism that no plan survives contact with the enemy. But no plan surviving contact with a hostage, that was new.

“Houston, we have a problem,” he transmitted. He uploaded the digital photo he’d snapped of the slender dark-eyed, light-haired woman who wasn’t supposed to be there and waited for identification.

It didn’t take long for the satellite uplink to give him what he needed. Name, Dr. Miranda Gray. Missing from an international volunteer relief organization for a month. The doctor specialized in nasty viruses. If she’d been grabbed for her expertise that would explain her presence at his target, a suspected bioterrorism site held by a radical terrorist group deep in Central America.

He didn’t have to wonder if she’d cooperated. The way she’d rendered her guard unconscious said it all. Dr. Gray had an interesting bedside manner. The guard outweighed her by probably eighty pounds and had the advantage of both reach and height on her. Her knowledge of anatomy more than compensated.

“You’re not supposed to take on the bad guys,” Gabe muttered, more to himself than to the woman he had under surveillance. “That’s my job.” More specifically, his current job was to destroy the target. The doctor’s presence threw a very large monkey wrench into the works. He’d have to extract her first, get them both a safe distance away before triggering detonation, and do it all without alerting unfriendlies to his presence.

Gabe was running through possible approaches when the doctor’s actions demanded his full attention. What was she doing? Moving at high speed, almost frantic but with hands that stayed rock steady, measuring out and mixing something that appeared to be charcoal and…

“Tell me that isn’t what I think it is.” Was she insane? If that was black powder, stirring it wrong could blow her sky high. He hoped to God she wouldn’t sneeze.

Conclusion; Dr. Gray knew exactly what her captors had in mind, and was hell-bent on stopping them. Getting out alive didn’t appear to be part of her plan, either. Then again, the very careful way she mixed the ingredients told him she wasn’t suicidal. Just desperate and determined.

Gabe abandoned planning and went into motion.

***

Miranda focused on the task at hand with fierce concentration. It was just lab work. She was used to that. She had to be precise and careful, follow protocol. The rules were the rules, whether you were dealing with vaccine samples or blood work. Or mixing gunpowder a step ahead of the goons who had everything they needed now and didn’t need her anymore.

She’d been safe as long as they needed her. She wasn’t safe now. As the days slipped past, she’d given up the slim hope she’d clung to that some embassy official or reporter or hell, former coworker, was campaigning for her rescue.

She’d probably been given up for dead. She might be dead before the night ended, but it’d be on her terms.

Her terms did not include surviving just so she could live with the guilt of countless deaths on her conscience. Deaths she could prevent if she was fast enough, strong enough, brave enough.Careful enough.

Monks had killed themselves mixing gunpowder when it was done by hand like this. If she blew herself up before she finished her task, it’d be for nothing. So she was going to be very, very careful.

A noise behind her made her body freeze while her heart accelerated and her mind raced ahead. Somebody was suspicious, coming to check on her, maybe coming to get some entertainment out of her before killing her. Rage instead of fear nearly choked her. She wasn’t done, the bastards weren’t going to win, not when she was so close. Fire was all she needed. The powder would make sure all the samples were destroyed before the fire could be put out, but she could start the fire now and hope for the best if it was all she had time for.

“Please don’t drop that,” an American male voice said behind her. There was a trace of the south in it, a hint of Texas. “Don’t be afraid. I didn’t mean to scare you. My name is Gabriel Everest and I’m here to rescue you.”

He didn’t move again and Miranda realized he was waiting for her to make the next move. Probably he could smell the acrid gunpowder over the must and metal and antiseptic odors that permeated the lab and didn’t want to startle her into doing something they’d both regret.

“I’m not finished,” she said without turning around. Having him behind her made her want to draw her shoulders in as if she could make herself a smaller target, but stopping might mean not finishing. She was going to finish this.

“That’s okay,” Gabriel said, keeping his voice calm and level, soothing. “It’s okay to just let it go, gently, and step back. I’m here. I’ll help you.”

“You can help me start the fire,” Miranda said and finished her job. Then she began to pour the powder around the lab, concentrating on the samples stored away in their sealed cases. She didn’t look at Gabriel. He wasn’t trying to stop her, so he wasn’t important right now. Looking would mean taking her eyes off the task, breaking focus. You didn’t break focus in the middle of an operation. People died if you did that. People would die if she didn’t burn it all.

“Dr. Gray. Miranda,” Gabriel said. “Can I call you Miranda?”

“If I’m alive an hour from now, you can call me anything you want to,” Miranda said absently. But her full name sunk in. He knew who she was. None of them knew; they just called her la doctora. And sometimes la perra. “You really are here to rescue me.”

“And to make sure the biologicals here don’t get used as weapons.”

“That would be smart,” Miranda said. “The fire has to get all of it.” She turned to look at him for the first time, and was glad she’d waited. The impact of him rocked her back on her heels. Not just the visuals, but the way he filled the room with his presence. An air of command and an undercurrent of something waiting to be unleashed.

Since the total effect of the man overwhelmed her, Miranda broke it down into separate pieces. She noted the square jaw, the watchful gray eyes, the dark hair worn in a crew cut that looked regulation. Broad shoulders. Fatigues designed to help camouflage him in this jungle setting and did nothing to disguise the powerful body they covered. Hands that looked very capable gripped a weapon she couldn’t begin to identify, but it looked lethal and probably had a loud bang.

They sent GI Joe to rescue Dr. Barbie, Miranda thought. She hoped he had his Jeep handy. Or some kind of getaway machine.

And there’s already a review from Carol Brown: “I loved this set of two erotic romance novellas. I had read the version in the Passion anthology (it was my favorite in that book), but had not read the one in the Mammoth Book of Special Ops Romance and was happy that the story I had read was expanded and loved the special ops story. The premise of the two stories are familiar, but Charlene Teglia’s execution make them well worth the read.” Thanks, Carol!

It’s Friday, and I’m hoping to have a great weekend. I have a HUGE To Do List, but I’m always better under pressure. SOme of the stuff is writing oriented, some f it isn’t, but all of it is geared towards making it easier for me to write in the future.

I asked a Question of the Day on Monday, and have a prize to give away today as a result. Chosen randomly from the commenters, Carol B winds a copy of PLEASURE’S EDGE by EVE BERLIN.

WHyd di she choose for her character to be an author? I asked her and here’s what she said.

“In my debut Eve Berlin novel with Berkley Heat, PLEASURE’S EDGE, my heroine, Dylan Ivory, is an erotica author. I wanted her to have a good reason to search out a sexual dominant-and to be open-minded enough when it came to sex to consider Alec’s suggestion that she try submitting to him in order to really research the book she was working on. And also because I always love to put a bit of myself into my heroines, and what better aspect of myself than my writing? Or my open-mindedness about sex. If only I had her gorgeous auburn curls…and her BMW.

It’s a debut novel for Eve, who also happens to be Eden Bradley, writing under another name. While I haven’t read this one, I have read plenty of Eden’s stories, and I LOVE THEM… and I have no doubt this one is just as good, if not better (as she only seems to get better with each story).
CHeck out the blurb and X Rated excerpt below!

Carol, use the CONTACT button here to email me your snail mail address so I can send you your prize! Oh, and yes, I’m writing again, not sure if it’ll be an novel or novella yet though. ;)

How do you know…

For beautiful erotica author Dylan Ivory, being in control is everything. Growing up in a dysfunctional home, she raised her younger brother–right up to the day he died in a motorcycle accident. Since then, she has lived a life of perfect order, leaving nothing to chance. Then she met the man who was everything she was not…and everything she wanted.

How far you can go…

Alec Walker is a writer of dark psychological thrillers–and a man who lives for thrills. From motorcycles to snowboards to swimming with sharks, there’s no end to his lust for excitement. His tastes extend into the bedroom as well, and into The Pleasure Dome, the local BDSM club where he lets no rules bind his desires. The only thing he truly fears is love, and allowing someone else to really know him…

Unless you go over the edge?

While researching a book on sexual extremes, Dylan interviews Alec–and longs to taste the temptation he offers. But he’s a self-proclaimed dominant and she refuses to surrender control. Slowly and seductively, though, Alec shows her that by letting go and submitting to his every desire she can experience the ultimate pleasure. But to keep the woman who for the first time brings him to his knees , can Alec take the ultimate risk and surrender his heart?

* * * * *

“Readers are going to feel the burn just turning the pages in Berlin’s BDSM-heavy story. Her characters are strong, the plot tight, the sex hot and, better than all that, her wrap-up is perfect…” ~RT Book Reviews-4 ½ Stars!

“Rarely do you find an author so adept at creating evocative characters and weaving them into a lush, sensual world. Eve Berlin is a stunning talent!”~Crystal Jordan, author of UNTAMED and ON THE PROWL

“Amazing. Eve Berlin is now officially on my must read list… PLEASURE’S EDGE is a fast-paced, sensual spicy ride with complex characters that are a joy to get to know… a masterpiece of character development… an absolutely satisfying ride.” ~The Romance Reviews

AN X Rated EXCERPT:

He was hard as hell, with her body warm in his lap, her need written all over her beautiful face. It was his job to serve that need. His own need was like a hammering beat in his groin, one he could barely control. He wasn’t used to that. To the extremity of it: heat, desire, pure animal lust.
But he could handle it, he reminded himself. He always had. He simply had to keep a reign on it, bank it for now. And give her what she desired. It was his job, one he did well.
Keeping one hand behind her neck, he squeezed a little. Confusion crossed her features.
“Quiet, Dylan.”
She looked as if she was going to speak, then closed her mouth.
“Good girl.”
A small shiver running through her at his words.
Ah, she would be the perfect bottom, this woman. That compelling combination of strength and fire and a natural submissive response.
He squeezed harder, simply holding her, a means to control her. Physically, but this was something that always seemed to have a psychological effect on anyone with submissive tendencies, as well. And it was working with her beautifully.
He kept his gaze on her face as he slipped his other hand between her thighs, used it to spread them apart.
Her mouth went into a small ‘o’, but she didn’t say a word.
He moved his hands in between that lush flesh, found the heat of her mound through her black panties.
“Tell me you want this, Dylan,” he commanded.
“I…yes. I want this.”
He found the edge of the fabric, slipped his fingers under it. A small moan from her. But she kept her eyes open, her gaze on his, as his fingers skimmed the swollen folds between her thighs.
Christ, she was wet. Soaked. And it was going to kill him to touch her like this and do nothing about the hammering pulse of his cock. But he would do it.
He slipped his fingers over her pussy, parted the full flesh, his fingers resting there for a moment. So damn hot. Then he found her clit and pinched it lightly.
“Oh!”
Still her gaze didn’t waver.
He pulled on the swollen nub of flesh, massaged it. Her breath came faster, until she was panting, her red lips parted. When he pushed two fingers into her, she gasped.
His cock twitched.
Like heated velvet inside, hot and wet and his cock wanted in.
Control.
He took a deep breath, thrust his fingers inside her. She squirmed on his lap, making him ache. But he was intent on her, his hand inside her, pushing deeper, until he knew by her mewling cries that he’d found her G-spot.
“Come for me, Dylan.”
And she did; it was that simple. Her sex clenched around his pumping fingers, her body arching. His cock thrummed with need, his pulse racing.
“Ah, God…Alec…”
She bit her lip and it was too good to resist. Leaning in, he took that plump flesh between his teeth and bit down, just hard enough, then opened her lips with his tongue. She was coming, panting into his mouth. And he took it all in: her pleasure, her sighs, the sharp scent of her desire in the air.
She was still shivering when he pulled back and moved her, laying her face down on his lap.
“Alec?”
Her body went tense all over.
“Shh. It’s time, Dylan. This is why we’re here. You’re ready.”
“Alec…No. I can’t…”
She was struggling to sit up, but he held her more firmly.
“Are you telling me ‘red’? Are you safe-wording out of the scene? If you are, I will let you up and we’ll get you dressed and leave here. Is that what you want?”
“I…no.”
He could barely stand to do it, to hold her down. Spank her. It would only make his straining cock harder, make it more difficult to keep himself under control. No woman had challenged his self control the way Dylan did. But he could deal with it. He simply would. He wanted to touch her more than anything in the world at this moment.
“Are we staying, Dylan?”
“Yes.”
He could feel the slightest give in her body. It was enough. He pulled the sheer mesh of her panties into the sweet line between her cheeks, baring them to his hands. He smoothed his palms over the silken flesh, just stroking her skin. Eventually, she went loose in his lap. Perfect. As perfect as the tight curve of her bare ass.
He began to tap with his fingertips, just hard enough that he knew she could feel it. He listened to her breathing for any sign of panic, but she was fine so far. He slapped a little harder, the flat of his palm making a small smacking sound. Her breathing didn’t change, but her flesh grew warm and showed the slightest tinge of pink.
“Are you all right, Dylan?”
“Yes.”
She was still loose and warm, and he knew she was slipping into the edge of subspace, had perhaps already reached it when he was working her with his fingers, before she even came.
His cock twitched, swelled.
Don’t think about that now. Concentrate.
He smacked her harder, his other hand still holding the back of her neck firmly. He knew she was feeling some pain. He also knew the desire in her body could convert it to pleasure if he handled her correctly.
He intended to.
Pausing to stroke her pinking skin, he smiled to himself at the lovely blush there. Drawing his fingertips over her buttocks, he pinched at the undersides. She squirmed, but her breath was still even. There wasn’t an ounce of tension in her muscles. He knew if he could see her face her pupils would be dilated, her cheeks flushed.
“Dylan, are you with me?”
“Yes.”
“I’m going to really spank you now.”
A soft moan, then she said, “Yes…”
“Good girl.”

Her Happy-Ever-After has been a long time coming…

Elle spent years trying to get over her so-called Prince Charming, and she’s finally getting the hang of it. A Grimm—a guardian angel with unique gifts—she spends her nights trolling for demons and kicking ass, and lately, her days have been spent with her on-and-off-again lover, Ren, a fellow Grimm. But fate has other plans in store for Elle, plans that include Michael, the prince from her youth who broke her heart.

“What do you choose…live for her? Or would you rather die?” That was the choice Michael was given all those years ago. Although he knew she’d never forgive him, when Michael was given the chance to become a Grimm, he took it. Still, he isn’t so sure Elle needs him in her life. With a lover at her side and a mission before her, Elle looks like she’s doing just fine without him.

But the not-so-charming prince isn’t going to back off that easily…not if there’s a chance she might need him again. He’d do anything to save her. Kill for her, live for her, die for her…

Warning: This dark, twisted version of Cinderella involves demons, deceit, desire, and debauchery between a princess and two sexy guardian angels, both determined to win the fair Cinderella.

EXCERPT:

“We’ve got to get inside tonight,” I told Ren. Halfway across the parking lot, I picked up my pace. “It’s getting darker in there. We’re going to lose more if we don’t move soon.”

There was so much life…so much emotion.

Lust. Anger. Jealousy. Need. Love. Rage. Hatred.

Emotions—uncontrolled emotions drew predators. That’s why the demons were here. Wherever there were people there would be emotion. And wherever there was emotion there would be demons.

Wherever there are demons there would be Grimms.

There would be us. Unlikely guardian angels trying to keep the unsuspecting mortals from making bad, bad and worse mistakes.

That was our job. We would do it. We would do the job. We would deal with the succubi and incubi. We would find the king or queen and eliminate them. Then Ren or I would hang around long enough to make it clear this area was now under the Circle’s watch.

If I had my way about it, it would be Ren hanging around. If at all possible, I wanted to clear the hell out the second we dealt with the king or queen.

I was planning on getting out of Ohio as quick as possible.

Maybe head for New York this time. Or Chicago—

No. Screw that. I was going to Milan. And the Circle could pick up the damn ticket, too.

I’d asked for a break and I’d ended up with an assignment instead.

They owed me that break, damn it.

I took a deep breath and glanced down at my clothes. Barbie goes badass. That was the look I’d been going for. I had on a black silk corset and, unlike some of the corsets I’d seen around lately, mine was the real thing—it pushed my boobs together and up, cinched my waist and kept my spine ramrod straight.

I was as comfortable in one as anybody could hope to be, but then again, I’d had a lot of practice. I’d grown up wearing these things when I had to—thanks to a doting father, I hadn’t spent my entire childhood in one.

But I had worn them often enough.

Never one quite like this though. Black-on-black silk brocade with blood-red lacing. I’d paired it with leather pants and heels that would break my neck—if I fell, and if I could break my neck in such a mundane manner. Which I can’t. I’d pulled my blonde hair into a high ponytail, gone a little heavy with the black eyeliner and red lipstick.

Barbie does badass, with a little bit of Dominatrix Barbie thrown in for good measure.

“You look delicious,” Ren said as he kissed one bare shoulder. “You sure you don’t have a whip lying around?”

“Oh, please.” I smirked at him and took a few seconds to adjust the bodice. I had my pendant tucked between my breasts. Wasn’t very comfortable, but I couldn’t afford to have the wrong person see it, nor could I afford to be without it. There wasn’t any room for weapons on me, but that had been intentional.

I wanted to look around this first trip in, not fight. I’d made that clear to Ren as well, but he’d have weapons on him. I knew that as sure as I knew my own name.

Still, I knew I could trust him not to draw them unless he had to.

I just hoped nobody forced his hand…or mine. I might not have weapons, but I’m pretty far from helpless.

The air closer to the building felt hot and heavy, a warning of what lay inside.

I’d known from the get-go this wouldn’t be a quick, easy job. I might have been harboring hopes, but they were dying, fading, withering away with every second I remained close to this abyss of darkness.

“Should be a piece of cake,” he had told me. Those had been my boss’s exact words.

“Will, one of these days, I’m going to kick your ass,” I said to myself.

“Hmmm?”

I shook my head. “Just grumbling about Will. He had the nerve to say this should be an easy job.”

“Well, so far all I’ve done is make out with you in view of others and watch other people making out as well,” Ren shot me his trademark devilish smile and in a low voice added, “Seems remarkably easy.”

“Your luck is about to break.”

This wasn’t going to be easy. It wasn’t going to be quick. We would have to kill while we were here. Not tonight, but sometime before the job was over. I knew it as sure as I was standing there. Possession by succubi or incubi was subtle…a seduction. It started out as just a minor need. Sex—something pleasant…maybe even harmless.

But the more the victim fed that need—through sex, naturally—the stronger the hold. It was like an addiction.

In the early days it was possible to rid the victim of the demon’s presence. Possible, but not easy, and the longer it went on the harder it would become.

Sooner or later, without intervention, the demon would be in control and the need for sex would dominate over anything else. Everything else.

Either the victim literally screwed themselves to death—forgoing food, water, anything and everything that wasn’t sex. The other scenario—the need for sex became so overwhelming they lost all inhibitions and all sense of right and wrong.

I’d saved people in the past before one of the possessed could rape them.

Somebody in there was already too far gone. Either they were killing themselves without realizing it, or I’d have to kill them when they went too far. Personally, I’d rather find whoever it was and just end it now.

A waste. Such a waste. Somebody had given up everything.

Do I sound slightly bitter? Sorry. Can’t help it. I’d lost my rose-colored glasses a few hundred years ago. Right about the time I lost my virginity and, shortly thereafter, my Prince Charming.

“Elle.”

Speak of the devil.

I knew that voice. It was the last voice I wanted to hear right now. Unless he was saying something along the lines of, “Ow, that hurts!” as I beat him across the head with a heavy, blunt object.

I stood there, frozen. Although I didn’t want to turn and face the music, my partner had no reservations.

I dug my fingers into Ren’s arm.

Why?

Will. Damn it. He’d done this—orchestrated this.

Schooling my features, I turned around and I’m proud to say, I didn’t feel the urge to swoon. Not even for a second.

That angel face of his hadn’t changed at all in the past three hundred years.

He looked as perfect now as he had the day he kissed me for the first time.

Heat flashed through his grass-green eyes as he studied my clothes and despite myself, my belly clenched in response.
