Ready, set……

New Year is loading now - Back view of business woman writing 2016 new year on white wall backgroundFor the last several years I’ve realized I’m not the most organized person. It’s been a bit of a freak out, because I’ve always been someone who could accomplish whatever I set out to do. I actually thrived on a bit of chaos. Then I fell into a depression. When it happened I didn’t realize it. I just sort of slowly stopped doing things until my Dr gave me a bit of a kick in the ass and I realized I’d basically slept through a couple of years of my life.

The kick in the ass happened in Feb of 2012. (I wrote this blog post in July 2012). Now it’s coming up on four years later, and I’m still struggling to get back to myself. There’s been some ups and downs for sure. Every time I feel like I’m getting better, something happens to knock me back a few steps. Family losses, my own health scares/issues, the publishing world changing so much when I wasn’t really paying attention. I’ve been paying attention a lot the last year and a half. Really striving to get back on track with my career, but it’s been hard because not only has the industry changed, so have readers, and so have I.

What used to work for me as a writer no longer works. I can’t pull all nighters the way I used to. I physically can not sit and pound out stories the way I used to. Part of me gets to antsy, and then when I do get into it and write, it becomes clear that age and weight gain, and deteriorating physical health has made it extremely hard on my body to sit the way I used to. I can not pound out stories the way I sued to.

The good news is that in really looking at the industry, and readers, and what I want from my career I’ve realized that I don’t want to just pound out stories the way I used to. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I still want to write, and I have plenty of stories to tell, I’m just in no hurry to rush them out. And I’m going to trust that readers will be okay with that because they prefer a couple of great stories over several good ones.

If you want to keep up with what I’m doing this year, checking out my blog here, and subscribing to my Newseltter are your best options. I do have a readers group on FB, and on Google Plus, but I miss the conversational style of blogging. (and FB pissed me off)So I’m going back to old school for myself. My website up to date, blogging regularly (at least once a week) and my newsletter once a month.

I’m thinking of trying a seriel in the newsletter. What do you think?

So, first bit of news…January is CARNAL month for me. I’m going to spending lots of time with Adam and the Overwatch crew as I write the next Overwatch story. So stay tuned on this channel for more updates and insider tips on Carnal as I write it.
