“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
— Will Rogers

It’s hard sometimes, to just stay steady on the path you’ve set for yourself. Everything seems to be all rush rush rush and immediate gratification. The internet has made the world so much smaller for us, but it also seems to have made us all too competitive with each other.

It’s too easy to see what others are doing and think why isn’t that happening for me? We look at other people’s sales, other peoples promotions, or weight loss, or days not smoking/drinking coffee, or whatever… We look at all the good news they’re posting and think what are they doing that I’m not doing? How come it’s taking so long for me to have success when it’s so easy for everyone else? What we forget is that when it comes to social media it’s not so much about communication or connecting anymore, it’s just about the status update.

People often state what’s going on in their life, and it’s often either the good things,so you can congratulate them and cheer them on. Or the bad things, so you can commiserate and give them virtual hugs to make them feel better.

It’s not that I think this is all bad. I think it’s great to be able to share news, good or bad, and to be able to support the people you know in those good and bad things. But, I also think this social media and posting a status update has made people think only in terms of the status. And it’s some how made us forget that every bit of news that is posted it as a status is only part of that persons journey. Just because they’re only posting about a sale, or a particular accomplishment, it doesn’t mean that it just happened out of the blue for them without all the work. We just don’t tend to talk about the journey it took to get to the point where they can announce that Status.

So, remember, just because it seems like things are coming so easy to others, doesn’t mean they’re not busting their ass behind the scenes. Which means, if you want success too, you need to bust your ass, and not just sit on it.
