RED giveaway

I just finished reading RED, by Jordan Summers. Being a regular reader of Jordan’s blog means I’ve heard much about this book before hand. Also being friends with her meant I wanted it to be everything she hoped it was. And well, it was.

I’m not going to rant and gush, because honestly, there was no surprise to this for me. I’m not going to go OMG! I love love love it. Because I expected a lot from Jordan, and I got exactly what I expected. A great story with depth, plot and romance – not to mention fantastic world building and characters I want to know more about. Does that mean I didn’t love it? Not at all. I did love it! But I’m not surprised I loved it.

RED is the start of a new series, the Dead World series. It’s called a paranormal romance, but in my mind it’s more of a genre crossing futuristic. But no matter what genre you think it is, it’s a great story. Morgan, the sheriff of a small boundary town, is totally sexy, and I look forward to drooling over him in the next couple of books. I didn’t connect with Gina, the heroine, as much as I’d like to, but I think that’s because of who she is, and I expect it to change as the stories continue. By that I mean, at the start of the book, Gina herself seems a bit disconnected…from herself and from others. I think it’s her coping mechanism. She’s the only female on an elite tactical force, and her family is all dead, except a grandfather – who is the commander of said Tactical Force. Her best friend is her nav-com unit, and she doesn’t play well with the other tactical team members. By the end of the story, she’s a much more human person, and I think it’s because she’s finally making human connections that matter to her. So I expect to see a more human and emotional side of her in the next story to help balance out the soldier she is.

To me, this is the sort of character growth that makes a series so awesome. Some things need to happen over time, and that makes them all the better. I’m eager for Scarlet, the next book in this series, and will be picking it up as soon as it hits stores.

So… if you’ve not picked up RED yet, and gotten started on this series, I highly suggest you do. ANd to that end, I’m giving away one copy of RED. All you have to do is post in the comments here, and I’ll post a random winner and on Monday.

Have a great weekend, and be sure to check back and see who won.

Look at me!

I’m on Wall Street!

Reader Shawna, who I had the pleasure of meeting when I was in New York last March, took this picture of PRIMAL MALE on an endcap at the Wall Street Borders store, and sent it to me. Since I only get the US once, maybe twice a year, I love to see photos of my books with notes from where they are.

Thanks Shawna!!

Shipping Now

Primal Male is shipping early! And, I’ve heard some readers who’ve picked the book up from stores already! So, the reviews fare starting to trickle in, and I am feeling good!!

Primal Male

Cheryl McInnis at Romance Junkies.com gave it 5 Blue Ribbons and has this to say….

“Author Sasha White has outdone herself yet again with PRIMAL MALE. This sequel to last year’s SEXY DEVIL is fast-paced, breathtakingly sensual and riveting. I finished this story in one sitting because I couldn’t tear myself away. The chemistry between Drake and Mel was very hot and the love scenes steamy and explicit, but even more compelling for me was the very real emotional connection between the two of them, and watching their relationship grow was deeply satisfying. PRIMAL MALE is yet another example of why Sasha White has become a favorite of readers who love both a well written story and sizzling love scenes. Pick this book up, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”

And since this review is out there, I’ll share Harriet Klausner’s too …although I’m not sure what to think of what she has to say… at least she gave it 4 Stars.

“The sequel to SEXY DEVIL is an interesting erotic romantic fantasy that lacks the typical non stop action psychic thrillers expected of a Sasha White thriller. Still Drake and Melissa is an interesting match up as she thinks he is a rogue hunter of shapeshifters while the return of the psychic Devlin siblings and their respective soul mates (from SEXY DEVIL) enhance the tale. Although at times too flaccid (except for that male body part), Ms. White’s fans will overall enjoy Drake’s efforts to persuade Melissa that he is not the menace and they belong together fueled by love in order to stop a psychopath predator from killing again.”

Day Off

It’s my birthday, so I’m not posting a SLIM CAMP post today. I plan to eat cake, and have a drink or three. *grin*

Oh, and since I’m working on a Family photo Album for Christmas, and my Mom had me scan in 100 photos of myself and my brother as kids…here’s one of me – true tomboy style – in nothing but shorts, cowboy boots and work gloves as I help with the work of building a rock retaining wall in our backyard of Victoria, B.C.

PS:WICKED is now a Bargain Book at Amazon for $4.99 .

Idiots

OKay, this story is a true story. It happened Today!

I live in an apartment building that was turned condo a few years ago. Still, its small. 3 stories, 12 Units. And my new neighbors, in the unit right next to me, have been doing some sort of building, or something. Two days ago I have no idea what they hell they did, but I swear the walls of the building were coming down. It only lasted three seconds, but it was freaky. Like they were cutting somethign and hit somethign very dangerous. Loud screech, walls shaking.. cats jumping, me jumping out of my skin. You get the idea.

I had no idea what it was.

This afternon the brainiacs decided to do thier saw work inthe hallway. Yes, right outside my door, they decided to use a table saw. A big electric table saw. I hear the annoying whine of the saw blade, smell the sawdust, and think uh huh. and two seconds later the buildings Fire Alarm goes off. It lasted almost 15 minutes until the Fire Department showed up.

Yes, the joys of working at home with neighbors who don’t give a fuck how what they do effects those around them. All I can say is that if I had a baby at home instead of a cat, they’d have heard a lot more from me than a snarky comment.

11 Days until Primal Male

Primal Male is the sequel to Sexy Devil. It’s Drake’s story, and it hits stores in 11 days! And not only will it be in stores, but available online as an eBook. (Kindle from Amazon, as well as other formats at places like Fictionwise and Diesel.com)

Anyway, I thought I’d share with you a sample of how I layer /tweak a scene. I can;t really describe it, I’m not good at that sort of instruction. However, here is the scene as I wrote it the first time…and then after you read it here, you can go read the final version on the PRIMAL MALE bookpage.

This scene is the first time Drake and Melissa meet.

Melissa wasn’t sure what to think when the stranger walked into her bookstore later that morning. In fact, when she looked up at him, her mind went completely blank as her hormones kicked into high gear.
He was big. Not just tall, but big, and built.
At five foot five inches she was no shrinking violet, but he had to be at least a foot taller than her. And when he unzipped his Gore-Tex jacket, saliva pooled in her mouth at the true breadth of the mans shoulders. She wanted to curl up at his side, under his arm, and run her hands over the muscled chest and flat abs. Her gaze traveled down, over said stomach and below the belt. Black cargo style pants that were a bit loose, but fitted enough for her see he was probably built there as well.
She raised her gaze again and found him watching her check him out. Intense blue eyes met hers and she reminded herself that he could be- he was dangerous. Intellectually she knew it, even if her first instinct wasn’t to run.
Book-marm she might be, shy she was not. And she knew one way to get answers was to ask questions — in the right way.
“Well, hel-lo,” she said, keeping her voice light and her smile warm. “You’re new in town.”
“Just visiting.”
The deep rumble of his voice sent a frission of delight down her spine, and Mel bit the inside of her cheek. Stay on track, she chided herself. “Winters tend to isolate us up here in the mountains. We don’t get many visitors this time of year.”
“I like isolation.”
She tilted her head, eyes narrowing on him. “You don’t talk much, do you?”
One corner of his mouth lifted in a half smile. “Words are often over rated.”
Ain’t that the truth. As nice as his voice was, it was the heat in his gaze that set her heart to pounding and her pussy to throbbing.
“That’s the wrong thing to say if you’re trying to get on the good side of a bookstore owner.”
He couldn’t resist. “Who said I was trying to get on your good side?”
“You should be.” She flashed him a sultry smile before tossing her next words over her shoulder as she stepped behind the sales counter. “My good side is a lot of fun.”
Oh, I bet it is, Drake thought to himself. He was still trying to cool down his system from the going over she’d given him when he walked in. Her gaze had traveled down and up his body, taking her time as she’d inspected him in a way that had made his blood hot and his mind slow.
Once behind the counter she turned and quirked an eyebrow at him. “What can I do for you?”
Lust ripped through him at her offer. And it was an offer, the spark in her eye and the hard points of her nipples poking against her shirt made it clear that she was feeling the pull between them as well. If he let down his shields now her arousal would fill his senses and he be bending her over that sales counter within seconds.
Licking his lips he kept his psychic shields in place and shook his head once. “I’m just going to browse if that’s all right?”
“Sure,” she said. “If you need anything, just let me know.”
Fighting his baser instincts, he moved toward the local interest section of the bookstore.

Now take a look at the final version.

Killing me Slowly

I admit it, I’m not a huge review hunter when it comes to my books. Of course I like them, because I like feedback, and the more reviews there are floating around, the more I think people are reading my books. But this time around, with PRIMAL MALE, the wait is killing me.

So far I’ve only seen 2 reviews for this book, one said it kicked ass and highly recommended it,t he other said it was lacking.

I know it doesn’t release for another 12 days, but normally there are some advance ones out there by now. Especially since on top of what my publisher put out there I personally have sent out over 50 copies for review (in eBook and print format).

I know reviews aren’t a huge thing, and they don’t always sell books, but for me, it’s about more than the promotional aspect of them. Sure, getting the word out, and getting readers talking is always a good thing, but it’s also feedback for me, as an author. In general, I feel reasonably confident in my contemporary erotic stories. I know that not all readers will like them, or ‘get’ them, but I feel good about my ability to write a decent story. PRIMAL MALE is my first full length paranormal, and I admit it, I’m feeling a bit insecure about it. So…the wait is killing me slowly.

Just thought I’d share.
