Primal Male

PRIMAL MALE is the sequel to SEXY DEVIL, and will be released in December. It’s Drake’s story.

I promised you a sneak peek, so here is the first time he meets Melissa, the heroine of the story. What do you think?

She watched from her bedroom window as the stranger walked the main street of Chadwick. It was almost four in the morning and the pitch black night made him look so … alone. It was more than the darkness and the quiet of the night that made him seem so. It was something about him. Melissa got the sense that even in the middle of a crowd, that man was alone.
He’d arrived about tweleve hours earlier, late in the afternoon, and word of his arrival had spread faster than wildfire. Such as things are in small towns.
Erin Rainier, her best friend since childhood, worked the front desk at the hotel down the street. And not five minutes after the stranger had checked in, she’d called Melissa, raving about how hot and sexy and mysterious the guy was.
Hot and sexy was good – Melissa could use some hot and sexy in her life that wasn’t self induced. Mysterious – not so much. Mysterious made her uneasy. Especially since he was prowling the empty streets in the middle of the night.
The closer he got closer to the bookstore her apartment was over the more on edge she grew.
There was a rythym to his gait and the way he was constantly searching his surroundings that put her on edge. Smooth and relaxed, yet with a sharp awareness that radiated off the man as his head swung from side to side as if he were searching… or hunting.
Her heart jackhammered in her chest. Melissa Montrose was not fond of hunters.
Suddenly, his head snapped back and his gaze went unerringly to her window. She froze. The room was dark behind her, and with the sheer curtain in front of her, as long as she didn’t move, he wouldn’t be able to see her from the street.
But she saw him, and her disquiet took on a new edge. Her nipples hardened and her insides quivered. The sexual appeal of a fling with a dangerous stranger was not lost on her. In fact, it appealed to her more daring side.

* * *

Melissa wasn’t sure what to think when the stranger walked into her bookstore later that morning. In fact, when she looked up at him, her mind went completely blank as her hormones kicked into high gear.
He was big. Not just tall, but big, and built.
At five foot five inches she was no shrinking violet, but he had to be at least a foot taller than her. And when he unzipped his Gore-Tex jacket, saliva pooled in her mouth at the true breadth of the mans shoulders. She wanted to curl up at his side, under his arm, and run her hands over the muscled chest and flat abs. Her gaze traveled down, over said stomach and below the belt. Black cargo style pants that were a bit loose, but fitted enough for her see he was probably built there as well.
She raised her gaze again and found him watching her check him out. Intense blue eyes met hers and she reminded herself that he could be- he was dangerous. Intellectually she knew it, even if her first instinct wasn’t to run.
Book-marm she might be, shy she was not. And she knew one way to get answers was to ask questions — in the right way.
“Well, hel-lo,” she said, keeping her voice light and her smile warm. “You’re new in town.”
“Just visiting.”
The deep rumble of his voice sent a frission of delight down her spine, and Mel bit the inside of her cheek. Stay on track, she chided herself. “Winters tend to isolate us up here in the mountains. We don’t get many visitors this time of year.”
“I like isolation.”
She tilted her head, eyes narrowing on him. “You don’t talk much, do you?”
One corner of his mouth lifted in a half smile. “Words are often over rated.”
Ain’t that the truth. As nice as his voice was, it was the heat in his gaze that set her heart to pounding and her pussy to throbbing.
“That’s the wrong thing to say if you’re trying to get on the good side of a bookstore owner.”
He couldn’t resist. “Who said I was trying to get on your good side?”
“You should be.” She flashed him a sultry smile before tossing her next words over her shoulder as she stepped behind the sales counter. “My good side is a lot of fun.”
Oh, I bet it is, Drake thought to himself. He was still trying to cool down his system from the going over she’d given him when he walked in. Her gaze had traveled down and up his body, taking her time as she’d inspected him in a way that had made his blood hot and his mind slow.
Once behind the counter she turned and quirked an eyebrow at him. “What can I do for you?”
Lust ripped through him at her offer. And it was an offer, the spark in her eye and the hard points of her nipples poking against her shirt made it clear that she was feeling the pull between them as well. If he let down his shields now her arousal would fill his senses and he be bending her over that sales counter within seconds.
Licking his lips he kept his psychic shields in place and shook his head once. “I’m just going to browse if that’s all right?”
“Sure,” she said. “If you need anything, just let me know.”
Fighting his baser instincts, he moved toward the local interest section of the bookstore.

If y’all haven’t given Delilah a try yet, why the hell not? This woman writes hot. I mean HOT!. And not only that, there is actually story, and emotion, and intrigue in this series. It’s edgy, and a tad bit dark, and very very yummy. I read INTO THE DARKNESS and can;t wait to read the sequel, but I’ve faith that Delilah Devilin is talented enough that you can read this one first, if you want to start here then go back to book one.

Slim Camp

I think now’s a good time to remind everyone of a basic truth. Stress does not help you lose weight get healthier. And one sure way to stress yourself out is too worry too much about what you eat, or don’t eat, or don’t do (as in exercise.)

It’s good to be aware of what you eat, and of being active. It’s great to make an effort to improve your quality of life. It’s not good to make it your whole world. It’s not great, mentally or physically, to become to consumed with what you’re consuming.

Always remember the goal is to feel better. Don’t make yourself feel like crap if you mess up, overeat, don’t make it to the gym, or fail to meet one of your goals. Just remember that tomorrow is a new day, a new start, and you can do this right.

To help us stay on the right track, I want to share some basic tips to help improve your health.

Keep a Positive Mental Outlook ~ Think of one thing you are thankful for every day. The sun shining, your kids, your job, your car, the invention that is chocolate. Sing a song, smile at a stranger. Feeling good will help you stay on track.

Move More ~ Put some music on when you clean your house and dance with the vaccuum, take the stairs, do sit-ups during the commercials of your favorite TV show. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but you have to move more. Once you start, you’ll find your doing it more and more without even trying.

Quit Smoking ~ I don’t think I need to expand on this one, especially if you have children. Do you want them to grow up and smoke?

Reduce Stress ~ Easier said than done for sure. But find something that works for you, and stick with it. My personal favorite? Punching the heavy bag, going to the driving range or the batting cage. What can I say? I like to hit things. Sometimes just losing myself in a good book or a good movie is what I need, but find something that helps you decompress, and do it when you feel yourself getting snappish or pissy.

Floss Your Teeth ~ Not only does flossing improve your health, but it makes your smile (and your breath) better.

Indulge once in a while ~ The key is once in a while. But don’t ever completely deny yourself that cheesecake, or bag of chips. Just don’t always give in to the urge for them either.

Anyone else have a tip to add? Put it in the comments and be entered for a chance to win a $10 Amazon Gift Certificate. I’ll announce the winner on here on Monday.

New Week

It’s Monday, and I don’t have to go to work today…which is a very good thing because I have to write. :) Want to see what I’m working on? I’ll post an excerpt for you tomorrow.

Last night I watched Randy Jackson presents Best Dance Crew again, and I must say, I’m so glad that despite cancelling my cable, I still get the music chanel.

I do enjoy watching Fysh N Chycks and BreakSk8, but Status Quo and Kabba Modern are my favorites, with JabbaWockeeZ easing into my personal Top Three. Those three are so consistently awesome, there should be no touching them by the other groups for a while. IMO.

Canadians can’t, so please, anyone in doubt of who they like..feel free to vote for those crews on my behalf. In fact, Please do! Maybe next Sunday I’ll post a reminder for those of you who will vote on my behalf since it’s closed now.

Last night I watched THE LAST MIMSY, and found it enjoyable. I loved the kids, they did an awesome job, and the storyline was pretty original and magical.

Okay, back to work for me. :)

Memories

I’ve been working on storing more of my photo’s digitally lately, and I felt like sharing. Of course I’m starting with some of the oldest ones I have, like my trip to Nepal, which was about 13 years ago. The one thing I love about traveling is meeting people from all over, and seeing what other cultures are truly like. While I do follow the tourist trail at times, I often go off the beaten path. To me, that is where there magic is.

Here is some of the portraits that always form in my mind when I think about my time in Nepal.

You can read about the Touring aspect of my trip here, and see some more photo’s in the Travel Album on my Photo Page.

For trivia sake, the story/article on Nepal was the first thing I ever wrote. (outside of High school English assignments) I started it as soon as I got home form Nepal because I was unemployed, but a week later I was back to work with a daytime waitressing job and a nighttime bartending one. I set it aside and never went back to it until 7 or 8 years later when I decided I wanted to try writing as a career. I finished the Nepal one, and wrote the Belfast one before writing my first piece of fiction, an erotica short story that was one scene long. Since then I’ve only written one more travel article, the Mozambique short piece that was strictly for my own memory sake. It’s been erotic ever since. (Although some of my travel destinations, and adventures, have shown up in my erotic fiction as well.)

Issues

Okay, Last week I slacked off on the Sim Camp post and I had no reason to becasue Amie sent me an amazing post for it. However, I was distrated by work and the V-Day fundraising, and forgot to post it.

So …When Aimie says last week on The Biggest Loser, she means the week before. For those of yu who watch the show, you’ll know what she’s referring to. (And since I give up my cable I’ve been missing it. )

So, Without Further introduction… Guest Blogger Amie Stuart

Issues

Last week on the Biggest Loser, Jillian brought her mom, a psycho-therapist in to talk about why the black team eats. Lots of deep issues were revealed. I thought it was really interesting that the three women on her team all had “been abandoned” by their fathers (in one form or another) at a young age (not to mention the child abuse whats-his-name went through).

Wow….just wow.

I agree with Jillian in that you’ve got to know your issues, you’ve got to know what trips your trigger, and not just when it comes to food. We ALL have issues; some of us just carry our baggage better than others. J

In the interest of, well, full disclosure, I’ll show you mine…please bear (bare? LOL) with me…but I don’t expect you to show me yours.

I have abandonment/rejection issues that I can trace way, WAY back (And in case you’re wondering how far back, I remember a story my parents used to tell and laugh about that I later realized wasn’t funny. My adoption was finalized in May ‘70, my dad was shipped to the PI shortly thereafter, and we followed months later. Once we arrived though, I wouldn’t have anything to do with my dad unless he had a Coke in his hand. Maybe I read too much into it; maybe not). Anyway, I think, somewhere along the way that whole rejection/abandonment thing came into play and I used food/weight as a way to hide. I was the kid who sat in the back of the class and never wanted to be called on even if I knew the answer(s). If you can’t see me, then you can’t judge me. The thing is, I’m tired of being invisible, so I’m definitely working on this one (if the nose ring and purple highlights are anything to go by).

However, I’m not sure I was actually an overweight child. Maybe I was just chubby but active. Unfortunately, having a mother who was 5′1 and weighed 100 pounds soaking wet (and didn’t look a thing like you) carting your ass off to Weight Watchers at 8 or 9 didn’t do much for my self-esteem. That’s not to say I *didn’t* have eating issues, I very well may have, but I think she could have handled them better. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

I’m *hoping* that I’m handling food better with my children. I try real hard *not* to nag about weight but I do keep track of how much and what they’re eating (especially my youngest who is definitely the chubbiest —and most sensitive–of the two). And I encourage them to stay active.

So what about you? Are there any issues that trigger your eating (or do you just have a sluggish thyroid?)? Is there a particular point in time you can look at and go, “See, there it is. Right there.”

Think about it for a while…I’ll wait. And I’m not asking you to share, but feel free to if you want. Otherwise, a simple yes or no would work.

*****

Thanks Amie!!

Well, I wanted to share … My progress so far.

03 / 90 pounds. 3% done!

Not a lot, but I’m thrilled I didn’t gain any while writing. Even better, in Feb when I was writing, I did gain 6 pounds. But in the last week I lost that again. (plus one) Probably water weight as I drank lot’s of soda while writing.

So my total loss since starting is 9 pounds..but I’m only 3 down from where I started..if that makes sense

Author Shit

i try so hard not to pay attention to things I know will get to me, but lately, I’ve been having a hard time.

Things that get me down that I TRY not to pay attention to, but seem to be all in my face lately.

NEVER seeing any of my books listed in the “What I’m Reading Now” section of any blogs, or on any loops. (Not even friends, or my own editors blog)

NEVER having been nominated for a Readers Choice or Reviewers Choice or Best anything in any of the online polls or communities.

Hearing that other authors are going back to print again and again when BOUND is out of print and unavailable now.

All of these things are great news for the author, and I’m happy for them, but it does get to me sometimes that I never seem to be part of them. Is this because people aren’t reading me? Or maybe because they don’t like my covers so won’t post them on their sidebars? (I love my covers so I don’t think that’s it)

Bad reviews are rare for me, so if reviewers love my stories so much, why am I never nominated for a reader/reviewers choice? Is it because I don’t do much, if any, online promotions? Or just because while they enjoy my stories, they enjoy others stories way more?

Sometimes, the silly crap gets me down, and I just had to vent.

Something that made me feel good:
another great review for WICKED. This one is form Jennifer at Kwips and Kritiques.

Sasha White knows how to write a mean BDSM romance! OK, not mean as in evil — no, mean as in wickedly naughty in the very best ways!… For a touching story that beautifully exhibits the true meaning of the term ‘BDSM Romance’, pick up your own copy of Sasha White’s Wicked. “

Thanks Jennifer. You made my day!

Monday

UGH! I hate Mondays.

I also hate Mornings. But here it is Monday morning , early Monday morning and I’m sitting on my laptop writing. The good thing. I’m writing.

I have to say, it’s been a long time since I’ve actually felt like a writer. Not sure why, but my desire to put words on the page disappeared fro a while. To be honest, I’m not sure the desire is back wither. But the need to is since I have edits due today, and I’m still not quite finished them. (I tried to get them done by Friday..I did. It just didn’t work) Oh, and I have a book due at the end of the month and I’m not finished that either. Yeah, the same book that was originally due on Feb 1st. I got my extention, and still haven’t made a dent.

Anyway… I pulled an all nighter last night, and somehow I’m feeling more like a writer. Funny how that works huh?

Maybe I’ve been getting too much rest these past couple months. Maybe that was why my muse disappeared. Maybe my muse isn’t a muse, but a complete lack of sleep that makes me slightly delusional. What do you think?

Life

Kathleen, Andrea, me, Liz, Sam_2

Life has suddenly gotten super busy. LOL I know it’s partly Valentine’s Day stuff and should calm down after the weekend, but I wanted to say I’m sorry I missed the Slim Camp post today.

Valentine’s Day is the busiest day of the year where I work. Not only is it a popular place, but for years and years we’ve done a lot of fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation on this day. We sell Heart Shaped pizzas, and because we only do this once a year, and a dollar from every pizza sold goes to charity, we sell a lot!

Plus, see all those Red hearts behind us girls in the photo at the top? We sell those for the first two weeks of February ($1 each) to raise money. They’re just silly paper hearts, and we get customers to write a message on them, and we hang them on the wall. As of the time when I let work today, our place had sold over 4,200. That’s the restaurant and bar combined. We’re hoping to hit 5k.

Cooks having fun. While I’m not a fan of the commercialism of this ‘holiday’ I enjoy this part of it. Our team at work today was great, and despite being nuts busy things went very smooth. It’s always good when everyone can laugh and smile in times of stress.

And my feet are killing me. I swear, I’d do anything for the man who would come give me a foot massage.

PS: Go congratulate Beth on her 2 WINS in the CAPA’s.

YAY Beth!
