There are a lot of posts around the blogosphere about the New Year, the past year, resolutions, and goals. I wasn’t going to post one because my goals and resolutions are a year round thing. However, Paperback Writer has a great post up about writing a dangerous book this year, and I’m going to join her.
I’ve not been around the publishing industry long, and from what writer friends tell me, I already have a bit of a reputation for being edgy and pushing the envelope a bit - when it comes to erotic fiction. Yet, I still feel that *I* need to change things up. When I try to think of new stories and new ideas, I’m stumped. Mainly because I feel as if I’ve written the stories I wanted to write. I’ve never exactly been a safe or traditional storyteller, but I have to admit I’m a bit stumped by what to do next. I have editors waiting for proposals from me, but I’ve not sent anything because I can’t think of an idea *I* can get excited about.
The good thing? John, my editor at Kensington accepted a blank idea for my last contract. By that I mean, He accepted the one book idea (PRIMAL MALE will be the sequel to SEXY DEVIL) but the second book in the 2 books sale is a blank. I can send him a proposal later, when it’s time to work on the story. This gives me time to find something I really want to write. So my erotic fiction will be getting edgier still, as well as maintaining the very important emotional aspect that I think makes true erotic fiction rock.
Beyond that, I want to try another genre. Not sure what, I have a few ideas…but I’m going for a dangerous book in 2 ways. It will be something I’ve never written, and it will be envelope pushing in a way that will surprise even me.
And for fun, thanks to Amie for this.

I may even post bits of it here, when I figure out what “it” is. LOL
Amie, it’s about perfect isn’t it?

Sounds good to me, Sasha. See, even if you’re not physically travelling, you’re still exploring with your writing.
by vanessa jaye December 28th, 2007 at 4:19 pmWell, you know *I* love how you push the envelope.
by Lauren December 28th, 2007 at 7:18 pmAh, you can do anything you put your mind to.
by raine December 28th, 2007 at 11:20 pmIt looks I am the only reader responding to this post. I am just reading my review copy of Wicked and boy do I love it, even though it contains a club scene which I usually avoid at all costs. Sasha, you are one of two authors that can - so far - sell me anything, even Dungeon BDSM, and yes, I know, many others consider this still vanilla play but for a vanilla person it’s anything but. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I believe you could do a gay romance very well, but I think NY isn’t as far as that to publish man romance (but maybe you could break the grounds???). But pretty, pretty please, no twincest or incest stories or heroes with two or three dicks, that grosses me out *g*. Go girl go!

by cathy M December 29th, 2007 at 3:37 pm2008 must be the year of change, and doing something different. I too am embarking on a new path…going down a different road and hoping it pays off in the end.
I know you’ll be great at whatever you do Sasha!

by Vivi Anna December 29th, 2007 at 4:53 pmSasha-you do push the envelope-that’s what your readers love about you! And your friends, too. :)
by Eden Bradley December 29th, 2007 at 7:04 pmYou’ll come up with a brilliant, exciting idea when it’s time-you always do. Maybe right now the universe is letting you take a breather.
BTW-just saw the pics of your new cat-Scarlet is beautiful!
Jaye, I plan to travel physically this year too!
Hi Lauren! Thank you so much, darlin’. That means a lot to me.
Exactly right, Raine!
by Sasha December 29th, 2007 at 10:44 pmHi Katie! I promise, no incest or twincest! And thank you so much for the high praise. I do try to make sure that anyone can enjoy my books, vanilla or kink of any kind, because to me, it’s not always about the sex itself…and it thrills me to know that that comes though in the stories.
by Sasha December 29th, 2007 at 10:46 pmCathy! That’s a great recipe!! and Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed Sexy Devil!
Same goes for you Vivi! You rock whatever you do. Are you excited about the new path??!
And OMG! Isn’t that the perfect recipe for you, Vivi!
by Sasha December 29th, 2007 at 10:48 pmThanks Eden, Scarlet is adjusting nicely. I think.
LOL I truly do think she’s doing well. She’s noisy though. always humming or meowing low..talking sort of thing.
by Sasha December 29th, 2007 at 10:49 pmAnd FWIW I agree w/Eden on the universe giving you a breather right now. It’ll come to you when it’s time

by Renee B January 1st, 2008 at 9:00 pmNoncomformity…I like it, Renee!
by Sasha January 1st, 2008 at 9:41 pmBoth my wife and I like your work and are intrigued by the idea of you “writing dangerously”. If you haven’t seen it, one book that might give you ideas on how to push the envelope is Swing, by Opal Carew. I picked it up this weekend and was blown away by it. It really squared the circle in ways I didn’t realize were possible.
by Sexyhusband January 4th, 2008 at 1:16 pmThanks for the recommend Sexy Husband. I’ll check it out!
by Sasha January 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pmLove the idea of you writing dangerously!
But my recipe? Included “2 parts Difance” which was not only confusing but disappointing. Definitely not as fun as yours.
