Brain Power

So yesterday was a very wacky day for me. I worked lunch – and it was a failry busy one. However, it didn’t really matter how busy it was because my brain just would not engage.
Let me explain. I can normally take food and drink orders from tables – sometimes several at a time- without writing the orders down, and still not screw up. I can do this probably because the restaurant I work for has been one I’ve worked for on and off for 18 years, so I know their menu,. as well as computer systems pretty good. (Oh, and the bar/pub/lounge I work at right now is part of the building, sharing a kitchen and menu with the restaurant. Make sense?)

Anyway, Yesterday my brain would not engage.

I’d go to a table of two and take thier drink order. Just thier drink order. And by the time I was back in the service area I’d have forgotten what they wanted to drink.

It happens every now and then. Lack of concentration, whatever. Anyway, afetr my shift was over it continued into my own home life. The most notable time, I went to the kitchen to refil my waterbottle (I use a refillable Nalgene bottle) put it down, continued to the washroom. Then went to get my bottle before going back to my desk. And couldn’t find it.

I looked everywhere for that water bottle. The kitchen, the fridge, the bathroom, even my bedroom(just in case). I looked on my desk, under my desk. I looked everywhere. I gave up and went back to work. Then half an hour later was hungry, and went to put a microwave dinner out of the freezer, and found my water bottle.

Seriously, no clue what was up with me. So this morning, when I sat down to work, and my brain wouldn’t engage, and my muse was in hiding, I went to the gym for the first time in three months. So far it’s worked. My brain feels awake once again.

What works to wake you up?

Monday

It’s Monday, and finally time to get myself back on track. Time to focus on writing, and getting the stuff done, that I’ve been telling myself I’d get done for the last two months. Deadlines are closing in, and my motivation is kicking into gear.

Well, my writing motivation. I’m not doing so well int eh get healthy department. I just seem to have stopped caring about it, and of course theat means I’m really gaining weight. Part of me cares, part of me doesn’t.

Trouble seems to be doing well. Watching the numbers for an author is not always a good thing. Mostly because the only numbers we can really watch are the online ones at places like Amazon and B&N, and they are such a small portion of actual sales. However, it’s something to watch. LOL I peek at them from time to time but I try very hard not to watch too much, cuz it can really drive a person crazy.

I watched a series on SPIKE TV yesterday, from start to finish (It was a marathon) the show was called THE KILL POINT. Anyone else see it? John Leguizamo (sp?) and Donnie Whalberg were in it, and it was about some ex-military guys who were a bit messed up from the wars they faught, robbing a bank. The robbery went bad and turned into a hostage situation. I really liked the whole thing because there was no clear “bad guys”. Sure they were robbing a bank, but what’s more sympathetic than a crew of messed up veterans?

Another movie I saw last week was THE LOOKOUT. It was great and I highly recommend it for those of you who like well written adn well acted movies. Josef Gordon-Levitt was the main character, (Chris Pratt) and some of you might remember him from the TV series 3rd Rock From The Sun. He did a fantastic job with this character. Another familiar face in the film would be Jeff Daniels, as his blind roommate. Again, it was about a bank robbery. There wasn’t a lot of action and such in this film, but it was very well done. Check out this link for more info.

What have you seen or read recently that you’d recommend?

More Trouble

Laure’s got a review for Trouble up right now.

And I’m thrilled to say it’s a good one.

“Ms. White has once again given readers a highly erotic story that goes much deeper than just sex. Samair and Val are wonderfully written characters whose story would be just as contagious if it didn’t contain sex; isn’t that the true measure of a truly excellent romance? Secondary characters are equally intriguing, and Val’s friend Karl (whom readers first met in BOUND) will have his story told in WICKED, coming from Sasha White in January ‘08, which promises to be just as delicious as TROUBLE!”

In other news, I just sold two more books to Kensington Aphrodisia, and one of them is going to be the sequel to Sexy Devil!

In normal life.….It’s Friday, and I have to work today and tonight. ( a split shift). Working outside the house again is great most of the time. I have a bit of a temper flare the other day at work, and- Surprise – it wasn’t directed at a customer.

Nope, it was at another staff member. An absent staf member who is my age (in her late 30’s) yet who can’t seem to grow up and act like an adult. Instead, she take the old high school route and has become the bitchiest, whiney, gossip person around. Well, little ‘ol me heard something pertaining to … me, and it hit a hot button.

I’m Italian and Irish, I have a temper, even though I’m pretty good at controlling it. Nope, not the other day. And co-worker chic is lucky she wasn’t there because I was pissed. Well, we’re both lucky she wasn’t there, because I don’t think either of us would’ve enjoyed it. Instead I uhmm, vented – Okay, I ranted to a couple of the managers and told them to deal with it … or I would.

Not one of my proudest moments. I try very hard to be adult and professional and not let my temper/emotions control my behaviours…but ..oh well. The good thing? It’s been a while and I have to admit…I felt much better after letting my temper go.

an 88!

Mrs.Giggles gave LUSH an 88!!

Whooo Hooo!

Or just a few of the good parts.:

It starts like this:
“At the risk of repeating myself from my last review of this author’s work, I really like Sasha White’s brand of erotic romance. When she writes about confident women, her heroines are really confident when it comes to sex. These heroines don’t have contrived “Eeek! I can’t enjoy sex too much because the reader may think I’m a slut or something!” issues to downplay their personalities. Likewise, when Sasha White writes about red hot men, these heroes are so hot that they can make my toes curl up permanently.”

And ends like this:
“Taken on their own, each of the three stories is pretty good in delivering the hot stuff and some tender stuff as well, but when put together in the same collection, these three stories only drive home how much I enjoy Sasha White’s brand of erotic romance. Lush is simply too luscious a read.”

Stuff

I’m over at The Idea Boutique talking about TROUBLE if you want to stop in and check it out.

And yesterday I was at Romance reader AT Heart talking about what a dreamer I am…and how it pertains to my stories. You should go see that post for sure, you might enjoy the pictures.

A friend sent me an email with a new diet plan in it.

I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my dog, and was in line to check out. The woman behind me asked if I had a dog…… Duh!! I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her NO. I was starting the Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn’t because I’d ended up in the hospital the last time, but that I’d lost 50 lbs. before I’d awakened in the intensive care unit with tubes coming out most of my orifices and IV’s in both arms.
Her eyes bugged out of her head. I went on with the bogus diet story and she was totally buying it. I told her that it was an easy, inexpensive diet and that the way it works is to load your pockets or purse with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two everytime you feel hungry. The package said the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again.
I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was now enthralled with my story, particularly the tall guy behind her. Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me and was that why I ended up in the hospital. I said no…. I’d been sitting in the middle of the street licking my ass when a car hit me.

I thought the tall guy behind her was going to have to be carried out….

Doubts, and other crazy writer issues.

Fallen Angel Reviews gives TROUBLE a Recommended Read! “Trouble is an awesome story of two people learning to trust and love. Samair and Val are a perfect pair and both characters will have readers panting for more. Ms. White gives the reader everything they want and so much more.” Sonya- Fallen Angel Reviews

I admit when I was writing TROUBLEI had a bit of a hard time with it. I just didn’t think it was any good. In fact, as I was writing it I kept whining to my poor cp Beth about how much it sucked. Even when the book was done, I worried that it sucked.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I -like most writers- tend to worry that whatever I’m working on sucks at the time I’m writing it. But with TROUBLE it was different than that. I didn’t worry it sucked. I really thought it sucked!

Strange too because I liked the characters, and I liked the story line, I was just super insecure about my own ability to tell the story.

I’m overjoyed that readers and reviewers disagree, and that they are enjoying it. But now I’m a bit worried about WICKED. My January 3rd release – Karl’s story. Why am I worried? Because when I was writing it, I thought it was the most powerful story I’d told yet. What if readers and reviewers disagree with me again?

And then there’s SEXY DEVIL, it will be releasing on November 27 from Aphrodisia, and I’m super excited about it. It’s a duet, (2 connected stories in one book) and while the first novella in it is a reprint of my previously pubbed novella THE DEVIL INSIDE, the second story is completely new, and way more paranormal with gypsies, demons and gateways to hell….and suspense. I had a blast wrtiting it.

While logic might say if readers love the ones I think suck when I write them, they might hate the ones I thoroughly loved while I was writing them….I’m going to assume logic has no place here. I also loved my sci fi shorts Abduction and Transplant while I was writing them, as well as BOUND and many other stories. I’m going to assume that there are just times when our insecurites get the best of us. And I’m going to do my best to crush those insecurites any time they pop into myhead again – because I do like writing, and I’m not going to stop.

More reviews for TROUBLE.

4.5 Stars from JERR! I love it!!
Trouble was a rollicking adventure of a romance. It has chaos, comedy and moxie from start to finish. The storyline is terrific, the flow and pace of the tale is quick, light and keeps you reading. Ms. White’s characters are well-rounded, sparkling and very normal people you can easily identify with. Samair is a terrific female lead; she was living life but not living her dream and when circumstances bite her in the butt, she bites back and takes control! Life has had a few knocks for Valentine as well and he is determined to come out of the fight on top. Their romance starts off with a bang and never slacks off throughout the entire story. The sex scenes are hot and worth bringing your toys out for; there are hints of past F/F passion but all of the action is M/F. There are unusual place scenes, a ménage scene and some additional light kinks—all hot, sensual and satisfying. Trouble was a terrific read that I really enjoyed and recommend. ~ Sandi Potterton, Just Erotic Romance Reviews

“Ms. White has penned a story that is unabashedly erotic, but is also well-rounded with a good plot and interesting characters who make it enjoyable through and through.” ~ Phillipa Anna RRTerotic.com

“In a market flooded with erotic romance Sasha White easily stands out among the crowd. … Filled with emotion, passion, raw sexuality and wit, I doubt anyone will have any TROUBLE devouring this steamy read.”- 5 Kisses, Romance Divas
