Why.

Dear Blog Readers,

There are a lot of writers out there with blogs. Blogging has become the “new” way to promote for writers. I have to admit, When I got my website just over two years ago, I had to be talked into having the blog. Then it became FUN. I met people and found it was a great way to interact. I discovered a bit of an exhibitionsit streak in myself. (Uhmm as in I like to spill my guts occasionally, not strip my clothes) I’d mention my books or stories every now and then, but I’ve tried to always keep my blog as a place for fun, frolic, and a bit of a tease for readers.

I still talk about my writing, but I try to talk about my life in general so that y’all can get a sense of who I am, because I ussually like me. :) However, as I’ve cut my hours behind the bar and writing has taken over my day to day life a lot more, my blog posts have become more focused on writing. I’m aware of that. I still talk about personal stuff, and men, and sex, (I do love to talk about sex) BUT, I also promote my books more and I admit it…I try to hook y’all into going to the stores and buying my books . I won’t ever let that become the main focus of my blog.

The main focus of my blog still is, and always will be, a place for me to share myself, and my thoughts, with you.

But When I read the post on Julie Leto’s Blog today, and the comments the readers had shared with her, I decided maybe I should tell You why the books and the writing has become more of a regular thing on here. You see, I love writing and I want to continue doing it. Hell, I will always continue to do it…but I’d love to be able to also keep it as a career. Anyway, Julie’s guest blogger explains it better than I can..so please go read this post. And know that no matter what..I’ll still always post the hotties, and the teases…even if I occsionally try to seduce you into hunting one of my books down.

Hugs,
Sasha

  1. Yes, I saw this particular post too and thought it very pertinent… I may post a link to it on my own blog.

    love

    Wendy

  2. I posted this one to get the word out. I just wish there was a way of hitting more readers with it. I know before I started writing I had no clue about the publishing industry. I thought a sale was a sale no matter where you bought the book.

  3. Hey Wendy, Spreading the word is good. :)

I agree Jordan. As a reader I never gave it any thought. To be honest, I never even gave it a thought when I was writing short stories since I was always paid a very minimal flat fee for them and with so many authors in a short story collection, there was never any pressure on any one in particular. Then I sold BOUND and started to learn how the industry really worked.

  4. Good plot post and article, Sasha. Thanks for the link.

  5. Hi Sasha,
I read the post. I’m just a reader, but it makes sense to me that if you want to read quality work you have to buy the work of the authors you like. Truthfully, I bought “Pure Sex” to read Bonnie Edwards’ story. I liked it, then I read “The Crib” and knew I wanted to read more of your work So bought “Bound” here and I’m glad I did because I have read it repeatedly. It was totally worth the money.(It’s the first full length book with domination and submission that I liked). I’m eagerly awaiting “Trouble” Keep it up!

  6. Hey Melanie! Thank You!! I live to hear that readers are enjoying my stories!! Especially when you found me by accident, and got hooked. That’s a huge compliment!

  7. Yup, I commented about this on Jordan’s blog. It’s the truth and I’ve been thinking alot about it, since Bombshell is dead and Nocturne is just starting…

I’m of course now figuring out how to get the work out about Nocturne, so that the line gets the chance it deserves and continues on as long as readers love paranormals. But if readers don’t buy new books really how long are any of us going to last???

  8. Hmmm, I usually buy my books new. As a German who reads all her fiction novels in English, you hardly have another chance.

(In a library you find authors like Stephen King in English, but English Romance except maybe for Nora Roberts can’t be found. Friends and family? Only a couple of friends who read the same books as I do and every one of them is very fond of their novels, but we share recommendations. eBay.de? You find rarely what you want and buying at a foreign ebay site involves expensive shipment, so that there’s no difference to the price of a new book. )

That’s okay cause I love to hold a new book in my hands and know it’s all mine. I’m very possessive when it comes to my books, especially the ones I loved and enjoyed reading so much.

But a question that comes up if thinnking about supporting authors is what I should buy when eBooks and Print is both available. Some pubs pay authors more for a sold print novel, others more for a sold ebook copy. How will I know here if I always do the right thing?

  9. I agree with that post. Libraries and used book stores are a god send to people who can’t afford anything outside of the basic living expenses : )

I do get a lot of books from the library (usually because I don’t have the patience to wait for a book to go to paperback and I can’t afford a lot of the hard copy books LOL) I don’t tend to buy from used book stores though *g* I like that new book smell that you get from new books LOL (kinda like new car smell but cheaper *g*)

  10. I don’t think the point of the article was to say Always buy new. I know that wasn’t what i wanted to get across.

I buy from the used book store too. However, for me, the main thing was to get across why my own blogging has taken on a bit more promotions than it used too. And secondary, to say that if you do have favorite authors, or find ones that you like, to do your best to support them by buying new when possible.

There is no denying the book habit is expensive, and new books are a luxery for a lot of us. Especially with this new fad of Trade size from publishers. I do wish my own were out in Mass Market, simply because I know how I shop, and $18 for a book is damn expensive.

So, thank you to all who have baught my books.
