Super reviews, Sasha! Well done you!

Hmmm, as a reader ideally I like to be surprised by endings. I also like the story to run on in my head. But I read a lot of fiction outside romance. I find romance everywhere though. I tend to buy by author or blurb, not label.

I don't read the label either. But from what I've seen on blogs lately (or, since everybody disagrees with me), it will be an issue for many romance readers.

I know I keep saying this but I really really think it comes down to the HEA being in the eye of the reader.... :great:

First off, let me say WOOT! on those reviews. I know Lexy's story from its very beginning and it deserves every kudo it gets. It's a fantastic story - I love the noir comments, that is exactly it. Oh, and not to mention the sex. Hot diggity! (You know I'm envisioning my favorite scene, right? )
As to the rest of it... I do look at spine labels, covers, blurbs, and so forth. If it's an author I don't know, I definitely comb over it to make sure it looks good to me. A traditional HEA is not a given in erotica and I wouldn't expect it. In Erotic romance though, yep, I would expect it.
The end of THE CRIB is a good "happy" one even if it's not traditional HEA.

I'm a big label reader at the grocery store, in bookstores, etc. Obviously, I look at the cover and then read the blurb first. If that catches my attention, then I'll look for taglines (ie erotica, erotic romance, horror, etc.) Whether I buy it or not will boil down to my mood. If the blurb catches my attention, then I most likely will, but I want to know what I'm getting. I don't like the old bait and switch that some books do. If it says erotic romance, then it better be an erotic romance.

Yeah it matters to me but only with romance. When out of that section I don't really worry about it.

But lately I am rarely out of that section. I think books with a strong love story or relationship should be in the romance section - be it chick-lit, inspirational, women's fic, erotica or romance.

At the same time if the labels aren't going to reflect what the book is, then I don't want anything in the romance section BUT romance.

I am one of those chatty people that talk to anyone, shocking I know. And more often then not end up talking to people in book stores (not sure if they think I am good for rec's because I am there SO long or because I am carrying so many books ;) ). More often than not, they are not online. They may have their RT list made but I mention the net, blogs or review sites and they have no clue. So those people DON'T research their books.

And oddly enough I get asked for rec's (often EC ones) from older women who know nothing about computers than younger 'sex in the city' types. So those are the ones I worry about. And the price isn't going to work in favor. At $13 a pop people are less likely to take a chance and less likely to try again once they didn't get the HEA they expected.

of course just my lil opinion :jump:
