“You MUST do the things you think you cannnot do.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt.
Kane sat in his car and watched the entrance to the club. Since it had looked like it was going to be a long might, hed left the club to grab a bite to eat, now it was just before ten pm and he was hesitating.
He should be in there. But the need to center himself, and remind himself why exactly he was going in there was strong. He wasnt going in there to flirt with a sexy woman, or get laid. He was going in there on the hunt for a thief. A woman who manipulated men with the promise of sex to get into their houses, and into their safes. He thought about calling Jack. It might be good for another cop to know what was going down, and Jack was a friend, hed back him up.
But Kane never reached for his phone. Instead he popped another candy into his mouth, and left his car to start the hunt.
The security at the door recognized him and he saw the guy radio inside before he was ten feet away. When he stepped aside and held open the door for Kane, Vanessa Lawson was just inside the door, greeting guests. And for just a second, Kane lost the ability to breath.
Shed changed.
Instead of the ripped jeans and tank top of earlier, the young attractive woman was now a devilishly sexy seductress. She had black high heel boots that went to the knee, a leather skirt and a plain white silk blouse. She looked like a cross between a high powered business woman and dominatrix Barbie.
Her dark hair flowed down her back in thick waves. When she turned her head to look at him the light shifted and caught the fire in her waves.
Their eyes locked and Kane forgot about everything but the sexual pull between them. She excused herself from the couple she was talking to and strode toward him. His heart pounded and his gut clenched when she stopped only inches away and leaned forward to brush her cheek against his. I need to know your name. Introducing you around as Detective Michaels sort of defeats the purpose of this little escapade dont you think?
He breathed deep and her scent went straight to his head. Clean and light with a hint of feminine musk, it made him think of naked bodies writing together on a sun dappled bed.
Kane. He cleared his throat and spoke softly. My name is Kane, Vanessa.
Nice to meet you, Kane. Her lips barely moved when she spoke, but he felt the damp heat of her words float over his lips.
Ok, so I do tend to surf the net alot for sensual, sexual and kinky things. I admit it.
And the novella I’m working on right now involves bondage and stuff, (as a few others have) however, with this one I’m trying to learn more about the actual way the ropes are tied and stuff.
Now, I’m certainly not judging. Everyone is completely entitled to whatever gets them off (except kids , animals, dead or unwilling people, and well, you know…the bad bad illegal and immoral stuff. but some stuff does make me go
I’ve seen a lot when researching. Some of it I find sexy, some . . . interesting, and some downright painful looking. But one thing I’ve had a very hard time finding…is sites and photo’s of ways to tie MEN up.
Anyone with any suggestions? I mean, I can use my own imagination…and I have, but pictures would be good too. You know, in case my imagination isn’t wild enough. :P
So I was perusing my stats, and see a couple of people have come in to see me from This link. I wonder if they like my post abotu Hockey?
We Won! We Won!!
Yes I am talking about Hockey.
The World Juniors in particular. With a 5-0 win over the Russians Canada kicked ass and took home the Gold!! Again!
It’s so absolutely inspiring and heartwarming to see an team with less experience win because of heart, and determintaiotn. Of course, Stutters coaching helped. ;)
TSN.ca say’s “Teams like Russia and the United States had a wealth of talent on paper going into the 2006 world junior hockey championship. But when all was said and done, it was good old-fashioned teamwork that won the gold medal - for Canada.”
Yup. Canada Rocks!!
The only thing I found a bit sad about the whole game was that so many people were drinking beer and watching the game, I was kept busy serving and didn’t get to watch much. LOL I did however, get to hear the cheers, and enjoy the excitement! Let me tell you, nothing energizes a bar crowd in Canada like a championship hockey game…..let alone a win!
Congratulations to the 2006 WORLD JUNIOR GOLD MEDALISTS!!
Erotica is sex for sex’s sake without any repercussions, demands, or thought to the outcome.
To be blunt, thats bullshit.
Unfortunately, its also a common misconception.
When the erotic romance subgenre started to boom a lot of traditional romance authors took offense. At first, word was that only writers who weren’t good enough to get published for real got epublished. Then word got out just how popular some of these epublished authors were and they shifted blame to to the subgenre. Romance authors started calling down erotica, and erotic romance authors started getting defensive about the fact that what they write is NOT erotica, it’s erotic romance.
And now, we have readers and writers alike struggling to try and figure out what is what.
Then NY publishers started buying. Some are looking for erotica, some are looking for erotic romance. Yet, not many have actual guidelines for what they want and marketing comes into play. More confusion. But basically, I think we all want the same thing. A Good Story.
Everybody seems to have a different idea of what is what, and this is just my version of things. Its easy to say that the difference between ER and Erotica is how they end. That ER ends with a happily ever after (HEA) and Erotica doesnt. Or that ER is more story and more love, and erotica is more sex and less story.
But things just arent that simple.
Erotica is, and has been a complete genre on it own for decades. A genre full of literary stories, photography and art, as well. We all know there doesnt have to be explicit sex involved to make something erotic. Yet, it seems easy for people to look at a photograph and say its erotic, even when there is not overt or explicit sex, but when a book or story is called erotica, its expected to be completely about sex.
Or worse even, its expected to be an Erotic Romance.
Now, this is not to say that erotica novels dont have a lot of sex. But I believe Erotica is all about the main characters journey. The sexual acts and scenes that take place in an erotica story propel the character on a journey. It’s the same way and a photogrpah that’s classed as Erotica, in my mind, is more than an image of a body, or a sex act. That photograph also tells a story. And it tells a different story to every person who looks at it.
I often post photos here on my blog. Sometimes they’re cheesy eye candy, sometimes they’re actual erotic ones. I trust people know the difference, even if they can’t put their finger on exactly why they’re different, and appreciate both for what they’re worth.
The same goes for fictional works.
Im sure there are many who will not agree with me, but to my way of thinking Erotica is closer to the chic-lit genre than to the romance genre.
Why? Because its all about the main character, and the obstacles that character faces. The obstacles could be a job, a boss, money! Or the fact that the character is realizing they like to be spanked, or that they enjoy sex with strangers, or that they crave being dominated and humiliated in the bedroom. The story is about one persons journey to a satisfying end, not always a traditional HEA.
Erotic Romance is, first and foremost, a romance. They are a full-bodied look at the relationship that develops throughout the story. It’s about the romantic relationship, and the struggles of the hero and heroine on the path to making their relationship work. Its about their journey. The same way a traditional romance is, only in Erotic Romance, the author doesnt hold back or close the door when it comes to the sexual part of the story.
These are the differences as I see them. Its how I define them when I write them, when I feel the need to define them.
But to me, the actual definition isnt as important as the fact that readers realize they are different genres, that they promise different things, and that they can appreciatte each one for the story it is.
What do you think?
I’m trying to finish up my Kensington novella, but I’m the Queen of the Short Attentions span right now.
I’ve yet to get back to the gym in 2006 , but I’m not worried. I HATE the gym the first two weeks of January every year…tooo many peopls. But it never lasts , so it’s break time for me. :D
I’m doing something very cool RIGHT NOW. Bridgit Cody is on the radio right now. Who’s that? She’s a cyber friend of mine and today is her inaugural radio broadcast!!
You can Listen too! The countdown will repeat around 4pm EST I believe if you miss this one (1pm EST)
Also the Preditors and Editors Readers Choice Poll is up and Meandros is nominated in the All Others Short Story Category. All Others huh? That means it’s got a bit of mainstream feel too it right? That’s what Mrs.Giggles thought too. Very cool! ![]()
Also, I’m starting to really yen to get into photography again. I think it’s because I’ve been sifting through my photo collection to put some up on my new Photo Blog. Sometimes I thinkI might ctually have been an ok photographer if I’d stuck with it. :P
Do you have anythinglike that in your past? Something that at one point you thought was everything to you, only to have somehow lost interest in it? Or worse yet, had to stop becaus eof outside circumstances?
Ok. I’ve procrastinated enough. It’s back to writing. But I’ll be back to check on your answers.
