I was told once that whatever you’re thinking about when you fall asleep is what you dream about. Who knows if it’s true or not, but for some reason, the ideas stuck with me. So some times I try to “plan” my dreams. Tonight I’m trying to plot, and hoping my subconsious will help me out. I have to admit, writing erotica makes my dreams pretty damn good. :P
What about you? Do you think it’s true, can you “plan” your dreams?

Oh, I try to wish myself to dream, but it just never works…maybe it’s because there’s some cosmic influence that prevents one woman dreaming that often about men…sure hope not… :P But I have uncanny recall. I can conjure the images from those dreams at will, sometimes even the smells, tastes and the sense of the dream. Comes in handy in this business… :hehe:
by Laura October 17th, 2005 at 2:37 amI don’t know - maybe it makes sense that what you are thinking about right before you fall asleep can influence what you "think" about when you are sleeping. Since most people don’t remember all of their dreams, it’s hard to say.
by Eve October 17th, 2005 at 8:47 amHell yes, you can!
I do it all the time. That’s usually how I get to sleep. I can’t just lay my head down and drift off…never works for me, because my mind is racing 24/7…so I will lay there and think of something to dream about, most times it has to do with Viggo, or Johnny, or Hugh, and recently Joaquin Phoenix…I think he’s sexy.
So the other night, I thought about being on David Letterman (another reaccuring thought) and Joaquin was on…
Try it, it works!
That’s also how I figure out plot issues. I’ll lay down for a nap when I have a block, and ask myself some plot questions, and almost always I dream the answer and work out the problems.
by Vivi Anna October 17th, 2005 at 9:24 amOh, Vivi, I’m afraid to do that! If I start thinking about my writing, then dammit all, I can’t sleep! My brain races faster and faster until I get up and write.
by Beth October 17th, 2005 at 10:18 amNow in terms of planning your dream, hmmmm… I haven’t tried it. I have noticed that things I’ve seen or heard during the day tend to pop up in them. Lemme try… think Keith Anderson, a secluded beach house, and a hot tub. :satisfied:
Yes, I’ve done it, but it usually scares the hell out of me because, although the people and/or situations appear as wished for, nobody does what I want them to do and nothing goes the way I had planned and eventually it turns into a David Lynch film.
So I stopped doing that and now my dreams tend to just be wacky and bizarre, but without that extra sense of scary "reality" that trying to make myself dream brought about. Heh..!
by Amber October 17th, 2005 at 11:41 amI’m not sure you can plan them, but I know you can control them mid-dream.
by Jordan October 17th, 2005 at 11:50 amYes! Exactly, Raine and Jordan, just litk when you’re in that half awake half asleep mode, you can shift things around. But if you wake up too much then the dreams get really weird.
Well, for me anyway.
by Sasha October 18th, 2005 at 1:05 amYES.
I’ve done it. Often. I was better at it when I was a kid–but yes, it can be done.
And Jordan’s right–you can also control them. All part of lucid dreaming, when you’re not only aware that you’re dreaming, but you’re in control.
by raine October 18th, 2005 at 12:54 pmFascinating stuff. :)
