Remember a week or so ago I talked about a weird dream of funnel clouds and stuff? And we sorta tried to analyze it? Well, here’s some pictures from last weeks thunderstorms here in the Edmonton area.

It’s no wonder I dreamt of funnel clouds, huh?

by Cece July 19th, 2005 at 1:01 pmThe first two pictures are definitely strange looking, but awe-inspiring. The third is a tornado. Yikes!!!

by Suzanne July 19th, 2005 at 5:58 pmThe pictures were taken just North of the city. Pretty awe-inspiring I thought. :)

by Grace July 19th, 2005 at 11:19 pmWOW. Freaky weather Sasha. Good thing you had your camera with you.
by Laura July 20th, 2005 at 1:12 amWow and Wow; yikes what awesome pictures!!! Hope everyone is okay after that storm.
by Robyn July 20th, 2005 at 9:35 amYikes! Those clouds look nasty.
by Silma July 20th, 2005 at 10:23 amThose. Are. Awesome!
The first two pictures (in case you’re interested) are of the wall clouds that produce tornados and funnel clouds. When you see these at the base of a storm cloud, it’s time to seek shelter.
by Larissa July 20th, 2005 at 10:32 amLaura~ I didn’t take them, a friend did, and emailed them to me. :)
I think they’re strangely beautiful.
Larissa~ Thanks for the lesson. We’ve had tornados here a couple of times in my life. Not a lot, but often enough that most of us know what sort of dammage they can leave behind. AS much as I’ve seen them before, I never knew the name of that type of cloud, or that it was the start of it. :)
by Sasha July 20th, 2005 at 11:19 amThanks.
I’m not sure what scares me more - the pictures or the fact that Larissa can identify them that easily. And calmly. :)
by Steph T. July 20th, 2005 at 1:08 pmI’m with you—those photos have an awesome kind of beauty!
by raine July 20th, 2005 at 1:48 pmOf course, you may also be dreaming of funnel clouds because of the whirlwind of success you’ve been having lately! :)
You’re not in Kansas anymore, chica!
Sasha–NP!
Steph–considering the fact that meteorology has been my job for 15 years, it’d be scary if I COULDN’T identify those clouds! :P (And the calm comes from loving storms! *g*)
by Larissa July 20th, 2005 at 5:25 pmWOW, those are incredible pictures. I would have been running in the other direction.
