Party Time.

Last night I went to a halloween party at work. I wasn’t working, which was nice, but I did have to dress up, which wasn’t so nice.

I’m trying to finish a short story this weekend before I begin a new erotic intrigue novel aimed at Black Lace. The new novel is what I’ll be working on for the Write Or Die Challenge that we’ve got going on Sylvia’s message board. Anyway, the party started at 8 o’clock and I was just finishing up my scene at that time. Not normally a big deal, I can get ready pretty fast when I want to go out. However, I still hadn’t decided on a costume. :doze:

So I checked in my bathroom cupboard to see what funky make up I had hidden away, then my closet fro any type of clothign that would work . . .and I went punk. It was kinda fun to play withthe make-up but the best part of the whole night was that We won the pumpkin carving contest!!!

The reason we won? Becasue I was smart and chose my friend Tammy as my pumpkin partner. She didn’t really want to do it because she said she couldn’t carve. “No problem,” I said. “You draw whatever you want, and I’ll carve it out.” (Is it bad that I’m good with a sharp knife?? )

Tammy drew us a funnky, sexy cat face on the front and little swirlies all around the back of it. Then after it was carved she decorated it with paperclips bent into matching swirlies and I used black eyeliner to outline the eyes and make them stand out! We won a box full of Cookies and Clods. Yum! Candy! :hehe:

There were pictures taken so look for them soon. There were some pretty funky costumes out there!

Fate?

I went out for drinks the other night with a couple of friends. It was a good night out. I got a bit tipsy, but not so drunk as I couldn’t function (which is always a worry for me when tequila gets invited to the party! :P ) Anyway, my friends and I were sitting and chatting and for some reason I happened to look up at the exact same time a guy moving a table about 10 feet away looked up. Our eyes met . . . and recognition hit!

His name is Toby Hargrave, and I haven’t seen him in at least 3 years. Toby and I worked together at The Lone Star Cafe, (when there was one here in Edmonton). The Lone Star, and the people I worked with there, all hold a special place in my heart. I can honestly say that it was the best place I ever worked. Not so much because of the money, or the restaurant itself, but because of the staff. Most were not from here in Edmonton. It was a collection of people from all over Canada that worked in this great place. Few of us had family close by at the time, and in my opinion, we formed a big family of our own. The restaurant closed down a few years ago and everyone’s gone their separate ways. I still keep in touch with a couple of them through the magic of email, but I have to say I feel a certain closeness, almost a kinship, with all the people I worked with at the Lone Star. Even if I don’t see them or talk to them often.

When I was at the LSC was when I first started to consider writing as a career. I can remember sitting at the bar before a shift and writing with pen and paper, and the encouragement from the others to go after what I wanted. So, I found it sorta fateful to run into Toby right now, because doubts about this path I chose have been darting in and out of my mind recently. Seeing him, and talking to him for only a brief 5 minutes, helped remind me of who I was.

Who am I? Normally I’m someone that believes anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Why did seeing Toby remind me of this? Because he handed me a business card, and told me what he’d been up to these past years. He too has been chasing his dream. More than chasing it, he’s working towards it. His dream? To be a professional funny man. I can remember a group of us going to see him at Yuk Yuks one night when he first started out, about the same time I was starting out with the writing. Going to his website and seeing how much he’s accomplished has helped me to realize that I too, have accomplished a bit in the past few years. It’s helped me to remember that lasting success isn’t instantaneous, and if I want this to be a CAREER it will take time to build it. And that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Another weird thing is, I went to Toby’s website and read his past Blog enteries. I saw this Tarot card one, and had to give it a shot even though I’m pretty sure there was one on Quizilla similar to it a short time ago. I got The High Priestess. When I read what it meant…it just reinforced my thoughts.

I am The High Priestess

The High Priestess poses a challenge to you to go deeper - to look beyond the obvious, surface situation to what is hidden and obscure. She also asks you to recall the vastness of your potential and to remember the unlimited possibilities you hold within yourself. The High Priestess can represent a time of waiting and allowing. It is not always necessary to act to achieve your goals. Sometimes they can be realized through a stillness that gives desire a chance to flower within the fullness of time.

Getting Personal.

We had a pretty good discussion here last week about what IS erotic, and I’ve been thinking. (Yes, I know it’s dangerous to do that, but occasionally I can’t help it. ;) )

I find kissing very erotic. Just on it’s own, with no other touching or happenings. Just kissing.

I’ve always thought it was because as a teenager I was a ‘good girl’ when it came to stuff like that. Not so much because of my catholic upbringing, but because so many of my friends were pregnant by the time they were 15 that I was terrified of that happening to me to. I never had a boyfriend in high school or even college, so I missed out on all that necking and petting one has when growing up, and went straight to full out lovemaking. (As an adult. I was 21 when I finally lost my virginity)

Anyway, what’s your opinion? Do you find kissing to be erotic on it’s own, or just a way to get to the good stuff? What about the brush of a partner’s fingertip across your hand? Or the gleam in their eye that you can see from across the room? What single thing do you find most erotic?

Surprise!

Well, I had a bit of a rough weekend. Saturday was great. A friend came over and helped me learn how to use my computer. :P ( I got some website updates done.) Sunday wasn’t so great. I had the whole email fiasco, and I was on tenderhooks, waiting to see if I’d made the cut inthe LF brava contest. (I didn’t. :( ) Monday, I was on tenderhooks waiting to see if I made the cut in the Tawny Taylor writing contest. (I didn’t make that one either. )

This may seem like small silly contests to some people, and YES, I know it’s all SUBJECTIVE. But the entries into these contests were important to me because the ms I entered were not erotic short stories. They’re Contemporary Romance novels (one is anovel one is a novella) My first attemps at moving outside my comfort zone. I was hoping for a bit of encouragement. I didn’t need to WIN the contest, but a final would’ve made me feel more confident that I could make the switch.

So I dipped into the self pity pool for a short time. :doze:

Tuesday, I was over it. I was back at it, working on another short story for Black Lace. And although erotica is my comfort zone, I AM still trying to stretch my writing wings within that zone.

Then I checked my mail on my way to work and found a surprise. A padded envelope that contained a book. THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF WOMENS EROTIC FANTASIES. It was a free copy because they’d pubbed a fantasy of mine!:hehe:

It was a surprise because I’d subbed it back at the beginning of Feb. I’d recieved an email a short time after saying they liked it, but they wanted some small changes. I made them, sent in the rewrite, and never heard back again. I did not recieve any contracts, or sign anything, and the book is a total surprise. I’d assumed they didn’t like the rewrite. Since there was cheque included with the Book for the amount they’d offered in the call for submissions, I’m happy! I may not have finalled in a contest, but I sold another story!!

I now have a total of 5 erotic short stories published in anthologies,(with 3 different publishers) not counting various magazine ones, and a contract pending for another one. :D

Oh! And I’ve decided my ego can’t handle any more contests.

Monday, Again.

What a weekend. I owe so much to Sylvia for helping me out with the website updates…and a huge problem with my email. I couldn’t get any! In fact, as of right now, at 3:40 a.m I still can not get into my email.(since Friday) Here’s hoping I didn’t miss, or God forbid LOSE a reply from one of the publishers, or agents I queried. Or even a contest notification!

Today is the last day for finalists in the Lori Foster Brava Novella Contest to be announced. So far, I haven’t finalled, and I’m guessing that means I won’t. :(

Oh well, life goes on. ;)

I have faith that a publisher will want it someday. Of course….I need to finish it first! :hehe:

Playing

I’m learning how to play on my website today! So far I’ve managed to update the NEWS section on the front, and add a new section in the Treats area. Next is to actually add the blurbs and excerpts for my current projects so I can tease you all. :P

This is a big deal for a computer illiterate person like me!! I should have the excerpts up by morning so keep an eye out for them!!
