About Sasha

Sasha White

Basics

Name: Sasha White

Age: Born in ‘69, kind of prophetic of my writing style. *g*

Hair: Naturally Curly Brown (mostly) with a mind of its own and a stubbornness that outlasts my own.

Eyes: Brown. (And I’ve recently had to start wearing reading glasses. )

Favorite Color: Black to wear, but in general, any rich color for everything else. Green, Purple, Red. They don’t go well together, but I like them *shrug*

Height: Shorter than I’d like to be, but tall enough.

Weight: Varies, but will always be curvy. It’s taken me 30 years to realize that there is more to my body than how it looks.

Mind: Sharp, and usually quick. Mostly self-educated through travel, and experience.

Family: Italian Mother, Irish Father. (Yes, I have a bit of a temper.)
One older brother.

Occupation: I’m lucky enough to be able to write full time, but I still work on a casual basis for my old boss. Waitressing/bartending/managing… whatever they need when someone needs a night off or a holiday. I love the people I work with, and the customers are a constant source of …inspiration.

Waitressing/Bartending feeds my endless curiosity about what makes people tick. Writing feeds my brain. Traveling feeds my soul.

Hobby: I do custom bookbinding for family and friends. Gifts and such. It’s an unusual hobby, but it’s something creative that helps me get past that creative block that happens occasionally.

Photography is something I once considered making a career out of. But, realistically, I’m not good enough…so it’s a passion now, not a profession. I’ve taken a few classes and I love to capture pretty much everything on film. You can see some of my stuff here on the Photo pages.

Background

It always surprises me when I think about how much I’ve seen and done in the past. Not because any of it is extra ordinary, but because I still feel like I’m too young to have done so much. I guess age really is a state of mind. Anyway, I’ll give you a quick outline of my past, but that’s it.

I was born in Calgary, Alberta and raised all over Western Canada. The travel bug has stayed with me and ever since I left home I continue to go wherever opportunity leads me. I’ve traveled through some of the United States, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Nepal, Singapore, Mexico, South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland and most recently, two short weeks in Greece. Aside from Mexico, Greece, and the States, my travels have been for months at time. I live out of a backpack and explore these countries, learning about their cultures and often volunteering at schools in exchange for room and board.

While I did quit college after my first year to bartend, my mind has never lost its hunger for knowledge. I feed it by indulging myself in whatever catches my fancy. Interests that will stick with me for life are martial arts, photography, travelling and writing.

I’m happy to say that right now, I write almost constantly. When I’m not writing I pick up shifts behind the bar to remind myself what real people are like, I love to go out and enjoy a meal and a movie with friends. And the occasional night of pool hustling. *wink* The urge to strap on my backpack and hop a plane still hits me, but I mostly just do short trips here and there now.? A couple weeks on a beach usually sets my mind right again.

I struggle with weight loss and have strong love/hate feelings about being single, it all depends on what day you talk to me. Oh, and I have a cat now. I was watching her for a friend of a friend and I’ve had her for a couple years now. (Her name is Mystery, but that’s not what I call her most days.) I have strong love/hate feelings for Mystery too.
